If you’re looking for moderately priced, delicious Chinese “tapas”, Ping Pong Dim Sum might be a winner. If you’ve yet to try it, be sure to put it on your radar next time you’re in Chinatown. The best thing about this restaurant is its location. It’s quietly nestled in a spot just around the corner from Techworld; just far away enough from the bustling crowds, hoards of foot traffic and gridlock in the more heavily populated portion of Chinatown. Off street parking is decent if you’re lucky but there are also a couple garages nearby.
TruDCFoodie Hint#1: If you park in the lot across from the restaurant and make it back in less than 2 hours you get a few bucks back! Liking it already? I thought you would.
The subtle Carolina blue hues and deep black/brown décor isn’t so bad. It kind of adds a moderate and sexy appeal to the restaurant during the day and at night.
TruDCFoodie Hint#2: The lovely wooden floors are a little slick so tread gingerly.
The layout is spacious with table and bar style seating. The service is fast, friendly and efficient (especially during lunch hours).
The food is absolutely awesome; fragrant, flavorful and made to order. Individual orders of dim sum come as three (3) pieces per dish. If you’re planning on trying different dishes and don’t mind sharing with a small group, this would be a viable option. If you’re feeling gluttonous and a little selfish you can certainly opt for a set menu for one. There’s also a set menu for the two indecisive diners, FYI. On a side note, the menu changes a little every two months so be sure to ask your waiter/waitress if there’s anything new they recommend you try.
The drinks are decent but certainly not recession friendly.
TruDCFoodie Hint#3: Stick to the basics (i.e. coke, water, tea…).
Price wise…At first glance one might say, “Hmm, the prices aren’t that bad. Seems pretty cheap.” Keep in mind it adds up rather quickly.
