Coming in July is the amazing Yoga Journal Conference. Master teachers from around the country will come to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin from July 7-11. Over the 5 days at the Grand Geneva Resort and Spa, you can pick from 5 different tracks to satiate your yoga desires. This is the closest Yoga Journal’s conferences come to Chicago – ever — so don’t miss this opportunity. They won’t be back for 2 years…
The main conference is on the weekend, the 9th and 10th, where there will be over 100 classes in all styles of yoga that will accommodate the beginner to the advanced practitioner. Whether you’re curious about yoga and just beginning your journey or are a teacher looking to continue your education, there are classes to suit your needs. For example, Lilias Folan, who you might remember from public television, will be leading a class called “Yoga for Every BODY” where, regardless of your yogic background, you will find how poses can be adjusted to fit YOUR body. Then there’s a class by Jason Crandell, a Yoga Journal editor, called, “Finding Your Teaching Voice.” Many new teachers and even seasoned instructors tend to mimic their teachers style. Jason will help you find your authentic voice as an instructor. In between, there are dozens of classes from improving your backbends, learning to stand on your head, finessing your meditation practice, and using yoga to improve as an athlete. Truly, there is a class for every interest!
On Friday the 8th and Monday the 11th, all day intensives will be offered. Each day offers 12 different teachers that you will spend the entire day with covering one topic. If you’re looking to deepen your practice maybe “Backwards, Upside Down, and Inside Out” with Deborah Williamson is for you. Has your back been killing you? Spend a day with Julie Gudmestad learning how to understand “Muscle Imbalances and Back Pain.” Maybe you need a way to bring your husband along for the trip or you are the spouse just going along because, hey, you love your spouse! Try “Yoga for Golfers” with Katherine Roberts and then take in a round of golf at the resort!
Have you been thinking about opening your own yoga studio? Thursday and Friday, July 7th & 8th, learn how to create business plans, deal with finances, techniques of marketing and proper management skills led by some of the most prosperous studio owners in the country. One of which is my teacher, Daren Friesen from Moksha Yoga in Chicago.
If you love music, come out Friday evening to enjoy a Kirtan with Sean Johnson and the Wild Lotus Band. You’ll get the opportunity to meet the first Kirtan band ever to play at the New Orleans Jazz Festival.
Perhaps you are a film aficionado. Saturday evening, July 9th, LUNAFEST Film Festival will present short films by, for, and about women!
Other highlights include a Yoga Marketplace that is free and open to the public, and, a keynote address by Andrew Harvey, author of Heart Yoga.
Another special treat is the Sunday morning meditation with Renee Fussner at 7 a.m. Begin the day with a clear mind, focused and ready to learn!
Of course staying at the Grand Geneva is fun for the whole family. There’s golf, tennis, hiking and an indoor water park. So bring the whole family.
