One has to wonder how many times President Obama must throw Israel under the bus before Americans get the point he is NOT as concerned with Israel’s security, as he is with the deep pockets of American Jewish doners to the democrat’s electoral coffers. This President and his leftist administration want peace in the Middle East at any price, ie Israel’s survival. Who in their right mind, living in Israel today, would accept as a starting point for negotiations with the Palestinians, the premise that the two state solution embraced by President Obama must begin with Israel returning to its pre-1967 borders? And for this surrender on the part of Israel, the Palestinians are asked to offer what in exchange; nothing! Not even that they officially accept United Nations resolution 242, recognizing Israel’s right to exist, as a pre-condition for talks. Our closest and most trusted ally in the region is being harrangued into accepting defacto dismemberment, so President Neophyte can get his way! Welcome to the wonderful world of community organizers!
Israel, in exchange for self-protection, is expected to rely on U.S. guarantees of its security, in the face of mounting threats and attacks from the likes of Hamas, Hezbollah, the PLO et al. Its too bad someone out there could not have asked the late Ngo Ding Diem of South Viet Nam or the late Shah of Iran what United States guarantees are worth. Or, more recently, Hosni Murbarak of Egypt! Does anyone seriously believe Mubarak would recommend accepting U.S. guarantees at this stage of lhis career? Then there is that bastion of integrity known as the United Nations, that prior to the 1967 Arab-Israeli War, had taken responsibility for “guaranteeing” Israel’s security with its Arab neighbors by stationing “peacekeepers” along the borders between Israel and the Arab nations aligned against it. In June, 1967, when the Arabs (Egypt, Syria and Jordan) began their attack on Israel, they simply ordered the so-called United Nations “peacekeepers” to step aside and surprise, they did exactly that! The U.N. sat on its collective Anti-Semitic behinds and obediently got out of the way of the attacking Arab armies.
Here we are, approximately forty-five years (and several land swaps) later and the only thing that has changed, is that there is more violence directed at Israel, by more intractable enemies. Those, led by the likes of President Obama, who constantly carp at Israeli leaders for being intransient, should ask themselves, if in truth, they would behave any differently if placed in the same predicament as those responsible for Israel’s safety. Would they place the security, nay the very existence, of their respective countries in the hands of a perfidious ally like the United States has shown itself to be. Likely not; especially if there is a bus bearing down on them! Jews living comfortably in the United States and relying on Obama’s ephemeral promises of support for Israel, should bone up on the promises made by Neville Chamberlain to the Czechoslovakians, at a meeting in a city in Germany called Munich!
