Once again our elected officials are taking on the issue of raising our nations debt ceiling in Washington. Within the next week we will hit 14.29 trillion dollars where the debt ceiling stands right now. Speaker Boehner stated “Now is the time for the Congress and the government to act.” He states we can not continue down this road of uncontrolled spending and will not raise the debt ceiling without real cuts in spending. We heard the same thing last month when the government was going to shut down but at the last minute Boehner got 38 billion in cuts so they passed the resolution to save the nation. Oh wait, for two months he was saying they would cut 100 billion in that bill which leads me to believe the ceiling will be raised once again instead of dealing with the real issue, consistently spending what they don’t have in Washington by continually borrowing 43 cents out of every dollar.
If the politicians were not interested in living off the backs of the taxpayers with huge salaries, million dollar slush funds used to travel around under the guise of communicating with their constituents and catering to lobbyists and special interest so they will continue to receive funds in their bids for re-election we would not have a 14 trillion-dollar national debt.
Sharron Angle raised 28 million dollars for her bid for the US Senate seat, Harry Reid spent 31 million dollars on the election of which he raised only 19 million (FEC Report) to head back to Washington to a job that pays 172 thousand dollars a year for first year Senators. Donors from outside of Nevada amounted to over 70% of the contributions received. The total dollars raised in the Senate race in Nevada was a staggering 47 million dollars combined.Who has our best interest at heart with most funding received coming from outside our State?
If our politicians actually voted on the issues that would work to the betterment of our nation they would not vote on pork just to appease their contributors whom by the way usually don’t even reside in the district of the representative they are endorsing. We have to look at those running for office each election cycle to distinguish those who love their country and want to do right by the constitution and those who love their country and want to line their pockets with perks that they could not receive in the private sector.
The time is drawing near as we head down the path of no return. If our representatives continue to vote to increase spending limits instead of reining in the uncontrolled spending habits that have eroded the quality of life for every citizen here in America we will become a nation just like every other nation across the world. We will be a bankrupt nation, our tax base continues to erode, our economy sinks deeper and deeper into what could be called a recession or worst a depression.
Our problem is not finding more money to spend or problem is finding ways to spend less money. Remember we have to borrow 43 cents out of every dollar spent in the Halls of Congress. When the Feds wake up and go to work everyday they must secure billions of dollars worth of notes to pay for the days activities within the government. They have to continue to borrow more as we receive less in return. This mindset has to stop immediately. We can not continue to raise the debt ceiling without serious conversation on how to control Congress and the spending habits that have drained our nation and put us on the course to bankruptcy.
