Our Lord and King is so many things to us, it is unfathomable. God loves us beyond anything we will ever comprehend, or compare any other love to. He thinks about us second by second and holds each one of our tears in a bottle when we cry. Our deepest flaws are laid bare before Him and He loves us all the more. Throughout the span of our lives the Lord expresses Himself to us in innumerable ways that unveil the depth of His character and awe-inspiring majesty.
God is the defender and protector of the weak in the most vulnerable situations. He fights for the causes of His children and holds up our heads when we become weary. He awakens us with grandiose beauty that could not be fashioned by even the most brilliant artist. His kisses from above give us touches of glory strong enough to let us plow through the insurmountable. He is our tender shepherd, laying us on His shoulders when we have gone astray, and leading us to the place of nourishment when our eyes fail.
Christ is the omnipotent King, reigning in perfect glory before all creation with humble power that conquers all. His name causes sickness to flee, and makes every evil spirit tremble in fear. He ignites debate and brings offense because of His holiness, and is the very power to change the dirtiest, sinful heart to one of transparent purity. No one can stand against Him or resist His victory on the Cross. No one can strip Him of His kingly robe and the salvation He won for all mankind. Jesus is the forgiver of all secrets and shame, and the healer of all untouched wounds.
With the gentleness of a dove, the Holy Spirit feels the burden of our sin and grieves everything that opposes the emancipation Christ died for. He draws us when we stray, directs us when we are lost, teaches us when we are confused, and loves us when we are deserted. He is a gift from the Savior to help us navigate this life until He returns, and will not let our hearts rest with the spiritual captivity of others. He makes us willing to suffer persecution for the sake of righteousness, and gives us a tenderness for every soul that is lost. He abides with us when our hands grapple for the ones who used to be there, and comforts us when we wear garments of heaviness.
We call Him Lord, we call Him King, we call Him Wonderful, we call Him Love. And with every redeemed breath, we get to call Him Father – Abba – Daddy. He always hears us, and He knows.
“The Lord your God in your midst, the Mighty One, will save. He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.” -Zephaniah 3:17
