Cee Lo Green has assembled quite the ecclectic team for The Voice. Featuring a country artist, a female pop duo, a rock star, and a petite girl with powerfully soulful pipes, his team is the hardest to figure out. Everyone is so different in style and genre that it really appears to be anyone’s game.

When LA TV Insider Examiner caught up with Green on the red carpet of the second live show for The Voice right here in Los Angeles, he admitted that he couldn’t possibly choose a frontrunner on his team right now.
“You know what? All of my team, on their separate occasions, have signified that it’s going to be hard to put anyone out in front,” Green said. “My whole team is equal in opportunity and ability, so it’s really going to be up to the American voting audience to really put their two cents in and really have the official word.”
Two of the most drastically different performances of the night came from Vicci Martinez and Curtis Grimes. Martinez stepped inside Grimes’ box in a way but choosing a country classic (Dolly Parton’s “Jolene”) to perform and make her own. And boy did she make it her own! She told us that it really wasn’t about genre at all for her but instead the emotion of the music.
“For me it was just– the song is just really powerful, a great message. I was singing it as a duet with a friend of mine in Seattle, and he really inspired me to take it as my own,” Martinez shared.
Meanwhile, Grimes took a well-known song in the world of rock n roll (“Addicted to Love”) and gave it his usual country twang with a guitar, a Stetson, and his sultry vocals. Though he felt butterflies before taking on such a powerhouse, he knew he had to go for it.
“Take everything you’ve ever done in front of people that you see and then multiple that exponentially and then try to squeeze that into a two and a half minute performance. You can’t describe that,” Grimes laughed.
“You basically have to trick yourself into saying ‘Look, it’s the same as practice. It’s the same thing. You’ve already rehearsed in the same outfit on the same stage with the same people on stage’, you know, just sitting back and trying not to let those nerves get to you!”
