On June 1, 2011, Lee Anthony, the brother of Casey Anthony, testified for the prosecution in the first degree murder trial against his sister. Casey Anthony, 25, is accused of murdering her two-year-old daughter, Caylee Anthony by wrapping duct tape around her nose and mouth thereby causing her to suffocate. The defense argues that Caylee Anthony was never murdered, but rather drowned in the family’s swimming pool. Casey Anthony is a convicted felon, having been found guilty of stealing her friend’s checkbook and using the money to fund a shopping spree during the 31 days that her daughter was missing. Though her trial is underway, Casey Anthony has been caught in numerous lies and it was the subject of those lies and the time span that Caylee was missing that Lee Anthony spoke about on the stand.

Caylee Anthony was last seen on June 16, 2008, she was reported missing by her grandmother, Cindy Anthony on July 15, 2008. Casey Anthony had claimed that Caylee was abducted by her nanny: Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzalez on June 16, 2008 and she had utilize her own means of locating her. Authorities confirmed that the information Casey Anthony gave to them regarding Zanny the Nanny, her supposed apartment, and where Casey Anthony claimed to work were lies.

In June 2008, Lee Anthony was not living with his parents, but lived close by. Casey and Caylee Anthony lived with her parents, George and Cindy Anthony. It was the only home that Caylee had ever known. Though Lee didn’t live in the house, he spoke frequently with Casey and was contacted by his mother who said she missed Caylee and was having difficulty finding Casey’s exact location. Lee utilized the social media networking sites MySpace and Facebook to try and make contact with Casey. He was able to make phone contact with Casey on July 3, 2008; but the conversation ended abruptly when Casey hung up on him. Lee then asked his fiancé, Mallory Parker , to help try and locate Casey and Caylee.
Cindy Anthony testified that she was speaking with Casey regularly from June 16, 2008 until July 15, 2008 either by phone or text but every time she asked for Caylee and Casey to return home she was turned away. Casey provided one excuse after another and finally told Cindy that she and Caylee were in Jacksonville. Lee Anthony testified, however, that Casey was not in Jacksonville as he found out she was in downtown Orlando, Florida. Again, Lee tried to find Casey but to no avail. When he spoke with Casey he asked her why she wouldn’t let anyone see Caylee. He testified that Casey said, “Maybe I’m a spiteful b*#@*.
On July 15, 2008, after George and Cindy Anthony returned home from an Orlando tow yard with their daughter’s Pontiac Sunfire, George Anthony called Lee and asked him to come home. Lee Anthony testified that he could smell a pungent odor coming from the vehicle. It was about five minutes after Lee Anthony arrived at the house that Cindy and Casey Anthony returned home. Cindy Anthony had found Casey’s friend’s phone number in the car and asked her to help her locate Casey and Caylee. Amy Huinzenga accompanied Cindy Anthony to Casey’s boyfriend’s apartment, Tony Lazzaro. Casey and Cindy returned home and were fighting as Caylee was nowhere in sight. Lee said he heard of Zanny the Nanny (Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzalez) for the first time on July 15, 2008, and it was that night when Cindy Anthony called 911 to report Caylee Anthony missing. Lee Anthony testified that Casey and Cindy fought throughout the night until the morning hours. Still, there was no sign of Caylee. It was Lee Anthony whom Casey confided the “Zanny the Nanny stole my baby,” story to.
