While pushing a treadmill to the limit at the Y in Glendale, Big Steve inquired:” What happened to Kid Chocolate? I thought his fight on Saturday was supposed to be on HBO?”
While millions of fans were able to watch Amir” King” Khan destroy Zab Judah on premiere television network on Saturday night only few thousands in the arena saw his stable mate from Wildcard Boxing Club, Kid Chocolate perform. Rising middleweight Peter Quillin also known as Kid Chocolate made easy work of a late replacement opponent from, Dover, New Hampshire, Jason Le Houllier scoring a fifth round knock out in front of intimate crowd at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. “I always feel like there is room for improvement,” said Quillin when I asked him to grade his performance.
From the opening bell Quillin attacked his opponent without having to worry about anything coming back; he threw combinations as if he was sparring in the gym against LeHoullier who was all defensive. Kid Chocolate showed how much he thought of his adversary by winking at somebody at press row during the second stanza. “Basically, what happened was he hit me,” explained Quillin when I interviewed him several days after the fight:” Boxing is a sport where you get hit. I did get hit and I heard his corner:” That was a good right hand!”, and I winked at him like that was nothing.” Unfortunately, that might have been the only good shot LeHoullier landed.
New Hampshire fighter took his licking bravely but he was getting busted up round after round throughout four until it became painful to watch in the fifth and his corner threw in a white towel in the ring. Official time of the stoppage was 1:36 of the fifth stanza. Another technical knock out on the record of Peter Quillin (25-0,19KO’S) who is definitely ready to take a step up in competition.
So what is in the future for rising middleweight contender?
“The sky is the limit for me right now,” replied Quillin, 28:” I’d like to be fighting with Sergio Martinez and I am going to keep mentioning his name because he is the best in my division. He is the best. He is the guy to go to and whatever Golden Boy feels like it’s going to be a good fight to get me closer to him, I am willing and ready.”
