The NBA Draft took place for the first time at the Prudential Center on Thursday. Thirty players were chosen but one player stood out to the crowd. Kenneth Faried, a graduate of Technology High School in Newark, was chosen by the Denver Nuggets. Even though Faried was not invited as a guest by the NBA, he was the 22nd pick of the night. Faried attended Morehead State University in Kentucky where he was an All-American in 2010.
Another athlete from Newark, Burt Reynolds of the Newark Bears, had an outstanding night on that same day as he led the Bears to victory against the Worcester Tornadoes. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Reynolds hit a two-run homer into left field. This was the second home run of the season for Reynolds. The Bears won 8-7, breaking a two-game losing streak before heading to Quebec for a three-game series.
