Spiritual ceremonies have used chanting and drumming for thousands of years to lift the spirits of the participants. These practices have been done around across many cultures. The fundamental elements of complex drumming and melodies created awe in primitive cultures and brought them closer to the Creator. Chanting and mantras are also used in healing rituals to realign the energy centers and to restore balance to the individual.
The common elements among these rituals are the use of particular sounds to activate the different energy centers of the body. These different notes and rhythms access each of the seven chakra energy centers to stimulate the areas of the body associated with an energy center.
The complex tonal scales of the Eastern and Middle Eastern music are largely duplicated through specific words. Of these, Sanskrit is among the oldest words used in chanting. In the Western chakra system, the tonal scale starts at C for the root chakra and progresses to the crown chakra and the note of B.
The different chants and tones have different purposes. Native American chants are used for celebrations, for preparation for battle, and for mourning the loss of a tribal member. The aborigines of Australia use chants to facilitate their dreaming, which is one of their paths to the Creator.
With modern technology, a new spectrum of sound energy has been activated that combines very specific frequencies with techniques that directly stimulate areas of the brain, and specific chakra points on the body. The discovery of binaural beats was made in the early 1900’s, and these beats can be used in combination with other frequencies.
The written word does not do justice to the power of chanting and sounds to provide stimulation of the chakras and to feel the inspiration of chanting. There are literally hundreds of examples of ancient and modern healing frequencies and chants available through You Tube.
