Cup -N- Cake Bakery is one of the many wonderful bakeries in the Triad area that offers wedding cakes for your special day. It is owed by Patrick Simpson, a baker who devotes an amazing amount of time and effort into every cake he makes.
Cup -N- Cake opened two years ago, although this isn’t first Simpson’s first culinary venture. He decided to re-open his home bakery because he wanted to provide his customers with the best cakes around. “My cakes are made fresh to order–by appointment only. I do not freeze my cakes (that makes them dry out) and I use the best ingredients that I can find,” says Simpson.
Since Simpson runs the bakery from his home, he creates only ten to fifteen cakes a year. “I devote all of my time to my client when a cake is involved,” remarked Simpson. He will create your cake the day of your reception to make sure it is absolutely fresh and fantastic: “The bride is important, and so is her cake.”
As far as style is concerned, Simpson focuses on more traditional cakes. He avoids the use of fondant, and says he likes the simplicity of a cake that is decorated with fresh flowers. His attitude towards cake is just what you want for the big day: “The cake should be the centerpiece of a wedding reception, not the focus. After all, it is about the bride and groom…I just provide the sweetness of the cake!” He also makes a variety of flavors–right now the most popular flavors are chocolate and vanilla bean white; however, he will make any flavor of cake as long as the cake will support it. “The trend seems to be that brides like to have a different flavor for each layer…it provides more variety for the guest,” says Simpson. His personal favorite? A triple chocolate cake with a ganache layer on top.
What should you do before meeting with a baker–at any bakery? Simpson advises you to do your research! He reminds you that the wedding cakes you see on television shows may not be a realistic budgetary option for you–“make a budget a stick with it,” he says. Also, make sure you can sample the styles and flavors of cakes, so you know you’ll like what you get on your wedding day.
When asked what makes Cup -N- Cake Bakery stand out from other local bakeries, Simpson replied, “Freshness. Customer service. I provide the best customer service to my customers. My cakes are guaranteed fresh and never frozen. I take great pride in my work and am very picky when it comes to how my product turns out. If I am not happy with the cake…I know my customer will not be happy!”
Cup -N- Cake cakes often start at $2.65 for slice, and cupcakes for a wedding start around $20 a dozen. He does require delivery of the cake, because he will need to set up at your reception site. For deliveries in the Triad (Winston-Salem, Greensboro, and High Point), the fee is $45. Outside of the Triad, it is $45 plus $1.00 a mile one way.
