We recently saw yet another “End of the World Prediction“ come and go. What’s the next Y2 event, the end of the Mayan Calendar in 2012? Short of living in or around the city of Denver and being dependent on a somewhat fragile infrastructure Denver’s biggest natural disaster threat is fire. Terrorism can’t be ruled out as a possibility either. Heat waves results in more deaths nationwide than all other natural disasters combined.
Retirees would do well to ignore doomsday conspiracy theorists and the like. Instead they should listen to state and local authorities. It is human nature to be last minute. Creative Retirement Planning is focused primarily on planning as opposed to execution. Planning is the most critical step and doesn’t cost a penny nor requires taking any steps/actions.
The reasons for Denver’s’ current and future retirees to embrace “Creative Retirement Planning” are many not the least of which is the abundance of dual purpose planning opportunities right here in the state of Colorado.
Denver retirees previously expressed concerns regarding outliving their money. They fought back by being prepared for most anything and creating options for containing their long term housing, energy and food costs.
A World Retirees Can’t Predict
Real estate, unemployment, US debt, and US dollar concerns continue to create economic uncertainty. Economic uncertainty and the earth’s ability to sustain the food and energy needs of a rapidly growing population (rising costs) have resulted in a world retirees can’t predict anymore. Perhaps retirees and future retirees are too complacent for their own good.
Out lying areas of Denver and the rest of state of Colorado provide a rich land of creative retirement planning opportunity. Those retirees seeking the right mix of small scale food production opportunities and local lifestyles conducive to energy and food costs containment are in luck. Colorado is a gold mine. Denver’s retirees can have their cake and eat it too!
It is human nature to be last minute. Living in a world retirees can’t predict anymore demands offensive planning that covers all the bases. A retiree’s traditional retirement plan should remain status quo. Adding an additional layer of increased self – sufficiency to their current retirement plans is more critical now than ever.
Will Denver’s retirees and future retirees plan properly for their retirement? Can retirees afford not to? Can they have peace of mind? Future articles will examine these questions and help retirees prepare for the worst and hope for the best in a world retirees can’t predict.
