Now that summer is here you most likely have one of three things at your house right now: a large inflatable pool in your backyard, a grill that’s been used a dozen times already and children home from school who are constantly bored out of their minds. Whether your kids are driving you crazy or not, check out these fun activities happening around the valley for a break from the summer routine.
Gallivan Center: Radio Disney will be on hand on Tuesday, July 19th and August 9th for a free kids event featuring carnival games, bounce toys, magicians, music and more. Also, the annual Folk and Bluegrass Festival will be held on Saturday July 23rd. The lineup and concert times have yet to be announced, so check back at www.thegallivancenter.com for more information on these events as well other activities going on all summer.
Hogle Zoo: Hogle Zoo will have their Ice Block Day on Saturday, July 9th from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Come watch the elephants, tigers and monkeys playfully knock around large ice cubes in an attempt to get to the treats inside as they beat the summer heat at this popular event. KOSY and Mike’s Custom Jewelry will be on hand with a crushed ice pool which contestants can dive into to cool off and grab great prizes (including a diamond).
Sandy Library: On Saturday July 9th from 10:30 am to 11:00 am the Sandy Library Branch will be having their “Donuts with Dad Storytime!” event in the large meeting room. Bring dad or grandpa and listen to great stories while enjoying delicious donuts. There are many fun crafts and activities happening all summer long at all Salt Lake County library branch locations. Liberty Park: Liberty Parks’ concessions are now open so come enjoy the swimming pool, tennis courts and the beloved carnival rides near the lake. Liberty Park is also home to Tracy Aviary, which houses a huge selection of birds and exhibits, including the new Owl Forest exhibit. Admission to the aviary is $7.00 per adult and $5.00 per child.
Red Butte Garden: Red Butte Garden is offering art exhibits, cooking classes, healthy living classes and even free Sundance movie events all summer long. Pioneer Day is free admission day to the garden. Check out www.redbuttegarden.org for more information.
