Much time is spent researching blogs and taking webinars and tutorials on developing a social media strategy. However, the simple underlining theme is. . . you’ve guessed it, communication. A lot can be learned about communication in and outside of the workplace through experience, both good and bad. Life’s ups and downs, teach us the importance of one thing: being sincere in your interactions with others translates to well-honed people skills. Sounds like a pretty simple concept but in a world where “maintaining your image” is priority, it is rare. Blunt honesty is just rude. But you can connect with anyone on any level by displaying sincerity.
In the workplace, it becomes a necessity. Sincerity coupled with professional maturity can really open doors. It is important to remember these key points in the workplace:
- Treat everyone with respect.
- Remember to never judge a book by it’s cover.
- Give others your full attention, regardless of position.
- DO NOT talk about other people.
You build connections through alignment. This takes having an open mind, looking beyond position, status, race, and gender. Finding common ground and being receptive to meeting new people can take your life and career to new heights you never imagined. Opportunities lie just outside of your comfort zone.
