Word of Marvin Bracy’s blistering times in the 100 meter dash have continued to circulate throughout the track world and of course, trickled over into the discussion of his football recruitment as well. Bracy’s most recent phenomenal feat came yesterday at the USA Track and Field Junior Championships, where he won the title with an incredible 10.05 second time (2.2 mps wind). The time was the fastest ever for a Florida high school athlete.
So how does this pertain to Florida State? The Seminoles, like many other programs all over the nation, are recruiting the high school junior in both football and track and field. Many believe that Florida State has as good a chance as any to land this exceptional athlete out of Orlando, Florida and it’s no secret that FSU’s track program is among the absolute best in the entire country. With Bracy continuing to establish himself as a dominant force in track and field, some are beginning to speculate how his talents would be best utilized in the future.
Anytime an elite sprinter comes along that doubles as a high level football recruit, one question naturally arises. Is this kid a trackstar playing football or a football player with track speed? It is entirely possible that Bracy may be both, much like UF’s Jeff Demps. Demps is a player that FSU’s Jimbo Fisher missed out on and the likelihood that he would make that type of mistake twice is slim. Bracy plays wide recever at Boone High School and his highlight reel is quite impressive. He is rated a four star recruit by each of the major scoutng services in football and quite frankly has the type of speed that no football team can afford to ignore. Florida State has its share of good speed, some players that may even be described as having great speed, but Bracy is the type of kid that could be an immediate one hit homerun type of threat. He is the definition of an explosive playmaker.
Despite all of this, it doesn’t change what seems to be an evident developing fact. Marvin Bracy’s future in track and field may be much brighter than it is in football. So much so that some question whether or not he should even bother doing both at the college level. This would be a difficult decision for anyone to make, but if you’re an FSU fan you should probably be have two wishes in regards to Marvin Bracy. Wish #1: That he signs with Florida State. Wish #2: That he and those that help him make his life decisions will be in favor of him continuing to be a two sport athlete in college. He will be a major asset to FSU athletics whether he runs track, plays football or does both. Whatever school is fortunate enough to gain his services should be grateful either way. His future is quite bright. Look to the left of this article to see video of Bracy’s performance at the USA Track and Field Junior Championships.
