Now that the secret is out and we know it was actually Sarah Walker (Yvonne Strahovski) who fell at the hands of Vivian Volkhoff (Lauren Cohan), Team Bartowski is going to swoop in and save the day…right?
Well, the fourth season finale of Chuck is entitled “Chuck vs The Cliffhanger” so maybe we shouldn’t assume anything. No matter how skilled this team usually proves to be. After all, emotions are running high here, and Sarah’s importance to everyone may color their reactions.
“Sarah is poisoned; Sarah is fighting for her life. It throws a major kink in everything, you know? Our relationship and our plans. Everyone kind of has to work together to save the day, you know? Like we do on Chuck!” You may remember series star Zachary Levi previewing for us.
Specifically after Sarah is poisoned at the rehearsal dinner, she falls unconscious, into a coma, landing at the hospital where Ellie (Sarah Lancaster) and Awesome (Ryan McPartlin) work. Chuck has to get the anecdote, which proves harder than perhaps expected, while Awesome integrates into the action a little bit in order to protect his soon-to-be sister-in-law.
“Awesome springs into action when things go south for Sarah Walker, and you’ll see him apply a little bit of [medical] knowledge and save the day, so to speak. It’s just fun. The last two episodes are when the whole cast is altogether, and that’s when Chuck fires on all cylinders,” McPartlin pointed out when LA TV Insider Examiner visited the Chuck gang on location at the shooting hospital.
That leaves Morgan (Joshua Gomez) left to sit by Sarah’s bedside and talk to her and tell her stories. But since Morgan and Gomez alike are always looking for ways to get in on the action, he has one eye out on the rest of the people in the hospital hallways and comes very close to taking someone out. But as Levi laughed, it’s a “swing and a miss” and at the last second someone else steps in, steals Morgan’s thunder, and takes out the threat.
Sounds exciting, right?
And though everyone reiterated the fact that just like every season finale, this one will end with something of a cliffhanger (hence the title, after all), the cast was also confident that Chuck fans would be very satisfied with the episode overall.
“I think diehard fans are going to be looking forward to the fact that it doesn’t end,” Levi said.
“I think I can say that because the name of it is the cliffhanger. I mean, it ends. It ends in the same Chuck way that we’ve always ended any season or half-season that later became a full season or whatever, in that kind of it’s open; what’s going to happen [sort of way]…You’re going to see the whole team collaborating in a way that’s right and has some closure for some things but also could be the potential to be continued later– potentially– even if it’s just in the minds of those watching the show.”
Chuck will air its fourth season finale on NBC on May 16th at 8pm.
