The 9th Annual Los Angeles Improv Comedy Festival begins June 6 running thru June 11 at The iO West Theater in Los Angeles. The fest, which attracts hundreds of improv and sketch comedy performers from Los Angeles and across the country, will feature improv and sketch shows and competitions on iO West’s three stages throughout the week, along with dozens of workshops from top improvisers and writers. In all, this year’s festival will feature more than 80 comedy workshops available to the public for registration, including workshops with iO’s founder, Charna Halpern. Workshops are quickly selling out.
Perhaps the biggest draw to the Improv Festival are the guest appearances by many celebrities and iO West alums, with this year’s festival being no exception. Danny Pudi, Jim Rash (Dean Pelton) and Yvette Nicole Brown (Shirley) of NBC’s hit show “Community” will perform as the celebrity guests in iO West’s “Armando” show at 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 9 as part of The Los Angeles Improv Comedy Festival. In addition, they “may have a few surprise/last minute guests as well.”
In addition, legendary improv troupe Beer Shark Mice will receive the Del Close Advancement of Improv Award on Saturday, June 11 at 9 p.m. Beer Shark Mice features Neil Flynn, David Koechner (“Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy,” “The Office,” “Saturday Night Live”), Paul Vaillancourt, Mike Coleman and Pat Finn.
Other performers scheduled to appear at this year’s festival include: Joel McHale and the cast of NBC’s “Community, Jeffrey Tambor(Arrested Development), Adam Scott(Parks and Recreation), Angela Kinsey and Kate Flannery(The Office), Drew Carey, Kate Walsh (Private Practice), Neil Flynn (“The Middle,” “Scrubs”), “Saturday Night Live” cast member Paul Brittain, the cast of Broken Lizard (the group behind and starring in “Super Troopers”), Lauren Lapkus (NBC’s “Are You There Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea”), Zack Pearlman (“The Virginity Hit,” MTV’s upcoming pilot “The In-Betweeners”), Matt L. Jones (“Breaking Bad,” “Red State,”) Joel Murray (“Mad Men,” “Dharma & Greg,”) Brian Stack (“Conan”), Paul Vaillancourt (“Funny or Die Presents”), Derek Miller (TBS’ upcoming pilot “The Wedding Band,”) and writers for “Conan.” Of course it wouldn’t be an LA Improve festival without a few surprise guests stopping by.
