The Texas Auto Writer’s Association held their annual Spring Round Up at Texas Motor Speedway earlier this month. The Round Up gives many of the nation’s top journalists the opportunity to test drive as many brand new vehicles they would like while reviewing and later casting ballots to vote on the best cars in Texas. The final votes were then tallied and the 2011 Texas Auto Writer’s Association released the outcome of their votes.
The Writer’s Choice Car of Texas is Cadillac CTS-V Coupe
With its streamlined exterior and just about every interior and comfort options imaginable the CTS-V Coupe with its V8 Supercharged engine, and RWD wowed the professional test drivers and journalists of TAWA. Cadillac specs list the CTS-V as also having, “StabiliTrak Electronic Stability Control System, 4 driver selectable modes Standard Steering Type ZF Servotronic® 2,6 speed-sensitive, power assisted rack-and-pinion; variable ratio Performance-Tuned Suspension Standard 6-piston front/4-piston rear Brembo brakes are all standard on the CTS-V,” per Cadillac specs. Two modified versions of the CTS-V are currently competing across the country in the SCCA Pro Racing World Challenge Series. (Please see above photo.)
High Performance Car of Texas is 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 Not only wowed the crowd with its 444 hp V8, the adjustable shocks all around accompanied with the Mustangs signature growl got eveyone’s hearts pumping!
Family Car of Texas is 2011 Dodge Journey Starting price of this 5 passenger SUV is a little over $28k and gets approximately 25 MPG on the highway. A few of the Journeys ‘Family Values’ include, “Electronic Stability Control senses wheel slippage and responds automatically to help the driver gain control. Electronic Roll Mitigation which actively monitors the vehicle speed / steering, actively applies targeted braking and modifies engine power to help prevent unwanted wheel lift and lessens the possibility of a rollover. All-wheel drive anticipates the need for added traction and responds to wheel slippage by transferring power to all wheels. This gives greater driving performance and increased safety and security. The system operates only on demand, avoiding unnecessary fuel consumption,” per Dodge specs. Also included is a rear back up camera, tire pressure monitoring and the usual comfortable seats and smooth ride which comes with the Journey.
Most Innovative and Alternative Powered Car of Texas is 2011 Chevrolet VOLT With its many included features, it was easy to see why the VOLT was also chosen as Motor Trend’s Car of the Year. “Electric drive unit with 150 hp, 273 lb-ft of torque Quiet, on-board generator/engine, 1.4L Internal Combustion Engine (80 hp), electro-hydraulic power with StabiliTrak, regenerative braking system StabiliTrak w/Traction Control Tire Pressure Monitor,” states Chevy specs. It is more awesome to encounter a VOLT from behind the wheel and TAWA rates this vehicle very highl the ‘eco’ car category.
