Terrace View Golf Course is a property five miles south of downtown Mankato on Minnesota Highway 22. It features two separate 9-hole courses: one is a regulation sized Par 36 course; the other is a “Par 3” course. This review covers the regulation course, which is a solid but fun test of golf.
Terrace View has a putting green and a driving range. The driving range also features a bunker to practice sand saves. There is some room to practice chipping onto the putting green.
Amounting to 3,304 yards, Terrace View features the “usual” setup: two Par 5’s, two Par 3’s and five Par 4’s. The greens are decent sized with a fair amount of slope, providing sufficient break.
There are only two bunkers on the entire course, on holes two and three (both are greenside). While water resides on six of the nine holes, it will only come into play if a shot is mis-hit. There is never the need to carry a shot over water from a fairway or tee.
Trees line the right (and occasionally left) side of all but one tee shot. As with any golf course, they can become an issue if you struggle to hit it straight. Further, if club selection off the tee results in a shorter than desired shot, the trees may affect approach angles to several of the greens.
Terrace View offers 100 and 150 yard marker stakes that are in plain view along the left side of each hole. Various forms of trouble (severe slopes, out of bounds and water) await behind most of the greens, so if you’re between clubs, choose the shorter of the two.
The clubhouse at Terrace View features a well stocked pro shop. Drinks, snacks, merchandise, balls and even clubs are available for purchase. Their staff is very pleasant and knowledgeable. There is also a small locker room for players to use as well.
Terrace View Golf Course is a fun place to play nine holes of golf. It does not have any characteristics that will fool golfers, but it does require that sound “course management” decisions be made for a good round. It is a great track to test your game or to play a nine hole round with your friends!
(Note: “Star Ratings” for this, previous, and future reviews are based on the type of course. Thus, a local nine hole or Par 3 course could theoretically have the same “Star Rating” as, say Hazeltine National, but they are clearly different types of courses. Therefore, “Star Ratings” will be based on the scope of the course.)
