Surrounding yourself with supportive family and friends is very important when you are a teen parent. As a parent, having a a good support system to help you through those days when you feel like you can’t go on or feel hopeless can really do wonders to your physical and mental well being. It’s especially important if you are a teen parent still in high school earning your diploma or trying to obtain a G.E.D. Having that support in your life while attending school or working a job will help you become a better parent which in turn will result in having a happy child/children. It is especially important for your child/children to see you surrounding yourself with people who genuinely care about you and your personal well being.
Having the support of your spouse or your child/children’s father is extremely important. It’s good for them to see mommy and daddy getting along, talking calmy and respectfully and being involved with day to day activities as a family. If you are no longer in a relationship with your child/children’s father, continue to have respect for one another and keep the lines of communication open with each other. It is very important for child/children to see that amicable relationships are possible.
Having the support of your parents is also important. It is good to have grandma and granpa in your child/children’s lives and have them spend quality time with their grandparents. If you have a good relationship with your parents, keep the lines of communication open, don’t abuse your babysitting privileges and over burden your parents and share your accomplishments as well as your child/childrens accomplishments with them. Building your family unit adds happiness to your life as well as your child/children’s lives.
Having the support of real friends is good for your health and your mental well being. We all need good friends we can vent our frustrations with, rely on for honest advice, share our happy times and sad times with and most importantly, it teaches your child/children the meaning of loyalty and caring about someone else’s needs other than their own. Our child/children like to see their parents happy. Seeing you happy makes the home a great place to live in. Remember to always find healthy outlets and good people to surround yourself with so you can be the best parent you can be to your child/children.
