Tampa Bay Rays’ baseball team has been on a winning streak including a double win Thursday night on the field and then on the runway. After beating the Twins at an early game, a few of the players were off to their annual fundraiser event in the evening, Rays on the Runway, for the Children’s Dream Fund at Renaissance Vinoy Resort in St. Petersburg, Fla.
The fundraiser event now in its eighth year started in the Palm Court lobby where tables set-up featured raffles of items donated by the players themselves and selling of Rays’ t-shirts and baseballs. Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres were far from short and delicious not to taste. Also special mention, the desserts were extra tempting to finish off the night with a toast of champagne.
Apart from the fashion show, the extra highlight was mingling with the Rays’ baseball players. Lucky fans and guests young and grown-up alike were able to get autographs and photos as the players stepped out into the lobby just before the Palm Court ballroom doors opened. If you hung out after the fashion show, there were more chances to do the same.
The Rays on the Runway fashion show theme fashionable resort wear included the latest fashions specially selected by Tamy Lugo of VStylist and under the coordination of Mayra Gomez. Tamy’s selections were from Tommy Bahama modeled by the Rays’ “boys of summer”, the wives or girlfriend’s modeled Penelope T Boutique and Navy Hyde Park. The modeling couples were joined by seven of the cutest children from the Children’s Dream Fund organization. They were dressed by Fifi Ruffles, Don Me Now Boutique and the Tampa Bay Rays.
The Ray players who contributed their time and efforts on the runway were Ben Zorbist (18) with Julianna, Matt Joyce (20) with Brittany Svengard, Derek Shelton (17) with Alison, Sam Fuld (5) with Sarah, Matt Moore (55) with Anna Orlando, Brandon Gomes (47) with Blair, Evan Longoria (3) with Jamie Edmondson, Jake McGee (57) with Morgan McNally, Jeremy Hellickson (58) with Natalie Cresta, Cesar Ramos (27) with Melanie McCauley, Kelly Johnson (2) with Lauren, Luke Scott (30), Chris Archer (22) and Alex Cobb (53). And applauding his teammates was David Price along with his expectant wife.
It was pitcher Brandon Gomes first time participating in such a worthy cause.
It’s just for a great cause. Its a good time for us. This is the best group of guys I think I’ve ever been around. They’re truly pulling for each other. It’s more than just teammates, it’s friends, so to do stuff off the field for charities only serves to make us closer.
After the fashion show, it was hug your player for a donation. Chris Archer was the most popular candidate for the evening but the most heart-warming hug request was for the youngest dream child Will. He stole everyone’s heart working the runway.
All proceeds from the evening of events go directly to the Children’s Dream Fund to make dreams come true for kids with life-threatening illnesses on the West Coast of Florida. Thus far, Rays on the Runway has raised more than $200,000 to help the Children’s Dream Fund.
Tampa Bay Rays for sure hit a few homeruns on the runway too.
