Well look at this, it is the first official weekend of the Summer and depending on how the weather is I am pretty sure you will NOT be hitting up the bars this weekend! This is more of a weekend to invite you friends and family over for a Grill Out. So with that in mind, instead of doing the lazy thing and grabbing some beers at the local market, why don’t you try your hand at some Cocktail mixing yourself!
It isn’t that hard to do at all and more than likely, if you are use to having some people over, you should have the right glassware and essentials at hand to mix your drinks and serve them right! Now, the main focal point of a good drink is to make sure if you are using anything juice related, FRESH is the keyword. With OJ, obviously, make sure you get something with the pulp removed out of it. Other than that, I have three simple drinks that you can do easy.
First on the agenda is a “Screwdriver”, but I have a different take on it that will take it another level of sweet if you prefer. A screwdriver is typically made up very simple with Vodka and Orange Juice, but to add a little extra to it, add some Peach Schnaaps to it to give it a different taste and feel. The quantities of each part is all dependant on what type of glassware you use, but just make sure not to overpower either alcohol over the juice. About an ounce each should do the trick. Then pour over a glass of ice and it is GOOD to GO! So let’s go over that again.
- 1oz Vodka
- 1oz Peach Schnaaps
- Finish with OJ, about 6oz should do it.
- Pour over ice in a Highball Glass
Second drink is a simple “Tequila Sunrise” and this is one that after one or two, you should be feeling just fine. For this drink, a highball glass is prefered again, but use what you have available. Start with 2oz of Tequila, 1800® if you got it, but anything will do. then level off with Orange Juice, but the trick is in the grenadine syrup.
- 2oz Tequila
Level with orange juice
2 dashes grenadine syrup
- With the Grenadine Syrup, you will want to tip the glass a bit and then vertical aline the bottle at the rim of the glass and let just a little go down into the glass. The idea of the tilt is that the syrup is heavy, it will go past everything else in the glass and then slowly rise up, creating a great “sunrise” effect.
And finally, a great drink you can make SUPER easy in the home and serve it up to all of your guests is Malibu Rum and Pineapple Orange Juice! No fancy name for this one, though it is the base of many great drinks out there (shots too) if you want to search online, there are plenty of recipes to be found. Just pour about 2oz of the Rum, cover with the juice in any size glass with ice and you are good to go.
- 2oz Malibu Rum
- Finish with Pineapple Orange Juice
AND there you go; 3 drinks that you can make in your home and those drinks can get you feeling good if mixed right and proper! Now go ahead, get the grill ready, set up that Facebook Invite, and get ready to have a rockin’ weekend!
