Our thrift shops, while they are incredibly good places to find thrifty fashion deals, also serve our community in so many ways to make lives a little easier, a little brighter, and a little more hopeful. In many cases, they offer a hand up and a new lease on life. Thank you all for the wonderful charitable ministries that you carry out all year long!

Stepping Stones Ministry, Inc. is “a physical marker for a spiritual encounter,” operated by Elmwood Church of God at 1427 Elmwood Avenue in Columbia. Their mission statement reads, “It is the continuous ministry of Stepping Stones Ministry to teach and preach the complete Word of God: to minister to the lost and hurting and make disciples of all men and women. We will continue in our mandate by Scripture to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, give drink to those who thirst and visit the sick and those in prison. We will continue to operate the thrift store and food pantry – always seeking ways to improve and promote these areas of ministry. The ultimate goal of the ministry is to assist men and women in their recovery phase of drug and alcohol addiction through the establishment of an extended transitional housing program.”
Stepping Stones Thrift Shop offers a wonderful array of women’s fashions, including shorts and capris, jeans and slacks, skirts and dresses, tanks and camis, intimate apparel, fashion jewelry, handbags, and accessories. Everything is on hangers, but is not all sorted by size or style, so it’s worth a little while to treasure hunt. Most clothing at Stepping Stones on Two Notch Road is priced at only fifty cents per piece.
And, shopping at Stepping Stones makes one feel good, knowing that the proceeds from the sales help recovering drug and alcohol addicts and other community outreach ministries in Columbia. The people operating the thrift store are among the nicest people I have met, and the merchandise is extensive. It’s well worth a visit for the thrifty fashion shopper, and you will surely want to go again and again. Happy thrifty fashion shopping~
