Before I get started I want to let you know that, yes, Sony did release the name and the pricing of the NGP read through the aritcle and you will find it towards the end. Enjoy!
Sony’s press conference began about 15 minuets late today, partially because they passed out 3D glasses to the attendees because the majority of the PlayStation 3 demos and trailers shown was in 3D
Jack Tretton opened the conference by first apologizing to everyone from publishers and developers to the customers for the PlayStation Network outages. He explained that 90% of the network is back up and running and that Sony thanks everyone for their continued support of the Sony brand.
Jack announced a new partnership with Cinema Now that will go live this fall. The first game that was shown at the conference was Uncharted 3 Drake’s Deception.
The demo, narrated by Chris Wells and I missed the name of the man playing it, showed Drake on a decrepit looking cruise ship that was rocking back and forth heavily. He quietly made his way into the ship and dispatched some enemies. He made his way down into the depthes of the ship showing off the climbing mechanics that looked amazing. After an explosion created a hole in the ship a firefight broke out and the ship begain to sink. Drake rushes to make his way out of the sinking ship. Without showing the ending of the scene the demo ends. The muliplayer beta begins on 6/20/2011. In October Subway restaurants will begin to give access codes to get early acess of the FULL multiplayer modes before the game launches on 11/1/11. After that a full trailer shown in full 3D was shown. Uncharted Drake’s Deception will launch with full 3D capabilities.
Insomniac Games came on to show a live demo of Resistance 3. This title will take place in NYC and the demo showed a level where the player attempts to ambush the Chimera. The ambush fails and the player is forced to grab a “power core” and run it back to a safe house. The game will be completely shown in 3D an will the Move peripherals. A “Sharp Shooter” package will launch for $150 dollars and will include the game, move controles, and the sharp shooter peripheral for move.
God of War Origins was announced and it will include the two God of War PSP titles completely remade for PlayStation 3 and will be able to be played in 3D. In addition to that Ico and Shadow of the Colossus will be bundled together for release on the PS3 and will also be playable in 3D.
A PlayStation branded 24′ 3D display will be released this Fall. With this display there will be no need for split screen because the TV will render two separate screens on top of each other and the shutter glasses will filter one screen for one player and the other screen for the other player. When it launches it will come bundled with two 3D shutter glasses, Resistence 3, an HDMI cable, and the TV for $499. He went on to talk about the move and how well it has been saying.
Jack introduced Chris Snyder to demo NBA 2K12 with the use of the Move peripheral. NBA On the Move is a new feature that allows you to point at the person you want to pass the ball to and to shoot. It can also be used for defense as well. The graphics or this installment in the franchise are the best they have ever been. It truly looked life like. Kobe Bryant also got on stage and demoed the game.
A new title named Medieval Moves: Dead Mans Quest announced by Umrao Mayer was demoed using Move. No inventory system is need in this game because of the 1 to 1 ratio of Move you simply change weapons based on your movement. The demo depicted this very well. The demo also showed many paths available to the player through the course of each level.
A trailer of Infamous 2 was shown showing some of the powers obtained throughout the game and some of the fighting and a huge creature which looked like it was on of the bosses in the game. Infamous 2 launches tomorrow. But, this fall they will launch a user creation tool that will allow for users to create objectives and missions using Move. This will be launching along with a new LittleBigPlanet2 creator with Move capabilities.
A trailer for Starhawk was shown. The trailer showed great graphics and some firefights along with a large mech that turned into a plane. At the end of the trailer it showed a battle in space.
Sly Cooper Thieves in Time was announced with the showing of a trailer. The graphics looked very cartoonish, almost cell shaded it was very a unique look. Of course, the trailer was pretty funny. Sly will be releasing in 2012.
Next up was Hilmar Petursson the creator of EVE Online to announce Dust 514 a PlayStation exclusive shooter that supports Move, and it connects real time with EVE Online. A trailer showing a futuristic world and a firefight was shown. The game launches in Spring 2012 with a closed beta in December 2011.
The next trailer was shown for Bioshock Infinite, showing an FPS prequel to the acclaimed Bioshock series. Bioshock Infinite will support Move. Irrational Games also announced they are developing a Bioshock game for the NGP.
Saints Row The Third will have an exclusive mode on PlayStation 3 when it launches on 11/15/11. Star Trek will launch with Move support and will have a peripheral modeled after the Phaser. Also a digital only prequel will be available only on PlayStation 3 and will release in 2012.

Kazuo Hirai took the stage to talk more about the NGP. But, before that he talked about the 10 year program the Sony mentioned 6 years ago at E3 and how the gaming world has evolved since then. He also spoke about the outages to the PlayStation Network. He then made his way to talk about handheld systems. He first announced PlayStation Suite which will be available on PlayStation certified Android phones, and PS certified tablets. He then spoke about how the NGP will have new ways to interact with games that will exceed the PSP interfaces.
Then he announced that the Next Generation Portable is named PlayStation Vita. “Vita means life,” said Mr. Hirai. The new system has two analog sticks, a 5 inch OLED multi-touch screen, a front and back touch pad, 6 axis tilting recognition, front and rear facing camera. Sony is partnering with AT&T for 3G coverage. The system will be available in WiFi and 3G/WiFi models. The system also has a built in microphone for use in game or to chat with friends. The system will be pre-installed with two social tools called “Party” and “near.”
Scott Rohde came on to show some demos of a few games in development on the PlayStation Vita. The first to be shown was Uncharted Golden Abyss. The graphics looked to rival those of the console versions. They allowed for touch screen controls during combat and while climbing which looked really cool. But, they also allowed for traditional controls thanks to the dual thumbs sticks on the system.
A demo of a “social action RPG” called Ruin was the next Vita game to be shown. This is your normal action RPG with both a social and a connectivity flare. This game allows you to take on rivals and raid their lairs and take them out. But, the really cool part is; you can save your game to the cloud then go to your PS3 and load the game from the cloud and play it on your PS3. So, while this game may not be the coolest one shown for Vita, knowing that capability makes the possibilities endless for handheld gaming.
Next was a demo of Modnation Racers on PSVita. This Modnation Racers is not a port of the game from PS3 or PSP it is a brand new title built from the ground up. They showed the track creator which used really smart controls. The back touch pad raises the terrain and the front touch screen lowers the terrain easily. Also owners of Modnation Racers on Vita will have compleat access to all user created content from the PS3 versions of the game.
LittleBigPlanet will be coming to the Vita as well and with it, it will bring a whole new creatin engine to optimize the Vita hardware.
Street Fighter Cross Tekkan was announced to release on Vita. In addition they announced Cole from Infamous will be a playable character in the game as well. They also showed a live demo of the game featuring Cole.
More than 80 titles are in development for the Vita right now. Sony announced that the PlayStation Vita will launch this holiday season (2011) and he WiFi model will retail for $249.99 the 3G WIFi model will launch for $299.99.
Sony closed with the same line from last year “We look forward to this year but, the best is yet to come.” Then a Taiko drum corps began to play and the theater was turned into a huge arcade with every title announced during the conference was playable.
