Larry Butler of Sarasota has jumped into the top spot on the singles leaderboard with only two weekends remaining in the Florida State Bowling Association’s championship tournament in Daytona Beach.
Butler pounded out a 795 scratch singles series to take the lead in that department, and coupled with 51 pins handicap, his 846 score also tops handicap singles. In addition, he holds the No. 25 position in handicap all-events at 2,131.
Another area player, Steve Kosinski Jr. of Venice, is sixth in scratch singles (753) and 20th in handicap singles (758).
Chad Smith of Jacksonville sets the pace in handicap all-events with a nine-game score of 2,253, while in addition to Butler, other area players among the leaders include Beth Owen-Cipielewski, 19th at 2,136, and Brian McCarthy at 2,122.
Scratch all-events is headed by Greg Blankenship of West Pasco with 2,167. Among area players, Kosinski is tied for 26th at 2,027, Owen-Cipielewski is 29th at 2,025 and Mike Aleshire is tied for 37th at 2,009.
Garret Jones and Darryl Meadows of Jacksonville are the handicap doubles leaders with 1,473, while the following area duos currently place as follows: Kyle Robinson and Wesley Marshall (5th, 1,403); Dan Dickerman and William Pease (12th, 1,384); John Wetter and John Wetter Jr. (17th, 1,378); Judy Donelson and Trish Baier (25th, 1,369); Curtis Leaks and Willie Lowery (28th, 1,368); Chris Christmas and Ron Klazon (34th, 1,364); and McCarthy and Richard Donelson (50th, 1,353).
Top score in scratch doubles goes to Enrique Quinoa and Mike Hamilton of Miami. Among area contestants, a pair of Venice teams — Tyler Lee and Tim Rohl (31st, 1,270) and Mike Mocny and Shawn Poneleit (42nd, 1,254) — are on the leaderboard.
In five-player team standings, Mike’s Pro Shop of Miami is atop the list in both scratch (3,582) and handicap (3,598) figures.
Among area contingents, the following teams are on both the handicap and scratch listing: Southern Edge I (27th handicap, 3,396, and 10th scratch, 3,298); Stephen’s Team (31st handicap, 3,383, and 14th scratch, 3,263); and Siesta Key Oyster Bar (35th handicap, 3,373, and 27th scratch, 3,178). In addition, Northern Air, Heating & Refrigeration is 12th handicap at 3,445 and Outlook Bar is 44th scratch at 3,110.
The 77th annual FSBA tournament will conclude its 10-weekend run on Sunday, June 26.
