May 6 & 7, 2011, Sammy Hagar and the Waboritas played in The South Shore Room at Harrah’s/Tahoe.
As usual when Sammy plays in Tahoe, Michael Anthony (Van Halen) and The Other Half open the show. The Other Half consist of band members, Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony, Vic Johnson and David Lauser. But on Saturday, (this was the show that I went to) it started a little different. Sammy, Michael and David jamed three songs without Vic. Sammy said, “We decided to do this literally right before we came on stage”. The songs were, “Love or Money”, “Baby’s on Fire” and “Make it Last”.
After Vic came out on stage, they played, “Running with the Devil”, “Sexy Little Thing”, “Pound Cake” and “Run Around”.
When Michael left and Mona came out, Sammy told the SOLD OUT crowd that the night before he had way to much to drink, and that they made a lot of mistakes during the set. He said, “Tonight, I’m going to take it easy” as he held up an ice cold Corona. It only took two trips from the three very hot cocktail waitress’ that were serving margarita’s from a bar they had set up on stage till he had his first margarita. They also gave some lucky people up front a couple of shots.
The Wabo’s set included,
“Shaka Doobie”, “Little White Lie”, “Humans”, “I Love This Bar”, “Rainy Day Woman”, “Heavy Metal”, “Fall In Love”, “One Way To Rock”, “Fight For Your Right” and three encore songs, Jimmy Buffet’s “Margaritaville”, “I Can’t Drive 55” and “Marching To Mars” which included a melody of Led Zeppelin covers at the end. Sometime during the set, Sammy’s son, Aaron Hagar came out and sang “Rock Candy”.
In between songs, Sammy told the crowd that he was trying to watch the Manny Pacquiao, Shane Mosley fight that was going on during the show, he said “What was I thinking playing on the same night as the fight”. (Pacquiao won)
The entire show lasted close to two hours and was very exciting throughout, everyone had a great time. (thanks Lesley)
