The Frisco RoughRiders appear to be getting off the the same slow start to the season’s second half that they did in the first.
The Corpus Christi Hooks used two big innings to coast their way to a 7-1 victory on Saturday, tkaing the first two of our games over Frisco at Whataburger Field.
J.D. Martinez hit two home runs and drove in three.
The Riders did take a 1-0 lead in the third inning on Davis Stoneburner’s triple and Guilder Rodriguez’s RBI hit. But it was all Corpus after that.
After a leadoff hit by Jose Altuve in the fourth, Martinez turned the game around on Carlos Pimentel with a two-run shot to left field. Jon Gaston followed with his own home run for a 3-1 lead.
Chris Wallace’s hit to score Gaston in the sixth chased Pimentel from the game after allowing nine hits in just over five innings.
Martinez hit his second homer of the game leading off the eighth off Jacob Brigham. James Van Ostrand would have a two-run hit later in the inning.
Frisco, meanwhile, only got two runners past first base after the third. The second one, Stoneburner, doubled with two out in the eighth but was thrown out at home after Rodriguez reached base on Altuve’s throwing error.
