Recently this writer published a story about the horrible abuse of the stray dogs of Romania. Now we have yet another case of this country and the complete disregard for living beings. This time, it’s the wild horses.
Over 1000 wild horses from the Danube Delta have been illegally slaughtered, leaving less than 500 alive. The wild horses are considered to be “pests” by local farmers and fishermen. But wholesale slaughter is not the answer to that problem.
The heartless brutality inflicted upon these innocent creatures is barbaric. While the Facebook page is in Bulgarian, anyone with eyes can see the horror these horses have been subjected to. Tiny foals ripped from their mothers, having their necks broken. Full grown horses murdered in the same way, with the murderers taking great pleasure in the drawn-out suffering of the horses as they kill them. Others loaded onto transport trucks and driven to the slaughterhouses, where their deaths are no less cruel.
What is wrong with humans who can look into the eyes of any animal and then inflict such brutal torture and death upon them? How did humans come to this? Thankfully the Romanian authorities stopped the transport and additional slaughter of the horses before every last one of them had been killed. Also, the organization, Four Paws International successfully rescued those horses that were on their way to slaughter, and they are finally safe.
There is a petition at Change.org, demanding that the illegal roundup and slaughter of these wild horses end, and the perpetrators of the slaughter be brought to justice. Please take a moment to sign the petition and add your voice for these wild horses.
No living being deserves to die in this manner, and justice needs to be served against the perpetrators. Romania needs to realize that their country depends heavily on the income from tourism. Animal advocates around the globe are letting the Romanian authorities know that they will not be spending a single dime to tour in their country unless and until this atrocity ends and those responsible brought to justice.
Blessings to you all.
