Salsa Central Denver, a membership-based non-profit organization that promotes Salsa music and dance in Colorado, is hosting the Rocky Mountain Salsa Festival June 4th and 5th at the Turnverein Cultural Center, located at 1570 Clarkson Street in Denver. The festival will feature salsa dance competitions of various levels, performances, dance and music workshops, and the announcement of the results of the online survey where members voted for their favorites in the Colorado salsa scene. Winners of the competitions and the survey will receive prizes.
Salsa dancers who are interested in competing or performing must register by June 1, 2011, no exceptions. Both members and non-members are encouraged to participate in the festival. It is not required for competitors and performers to be members of Salsa Central Denver, but participants must agree to the rules of the competition. Event begins June 4th at 7:30pm, doors open at 6pm. Dance competitions are two Jack N Jill and one strictly salsa (registration required). All three competitions are limited to 12 couples each. Performances and professional demo’s are also part of the festival, showcasing the best in the Colorado salsa scene. Tickets to the event are $15 per person for both members and non-members. All ages are welcomed to attend, children aged under 12 get in free. Those older than age 12 must purchase a ticket, and a cash-bar will be open on-site for people 21 and over. The Dj will play different latin music styles for open dancing.
On June 5th, the second day of the festival, dance and music workshops are scheduled at the Turnverein Cultural Center starting at noon. There will be several salsa workshops in addition to other styles of latin dance, including bachata, tango moves for salsa, mambo (on-2), musicality, and an afro-caribe fitness class. Workshops are free for members of Salsa Central Denver, but non-members can attend for $15 per workshop or $40 for the day.
