Boxing bad boy Ricardo Mayorga, for reasons best known to himself, launched a lengthy and at times bizarre attack on MMA as well as several prominent figures from with the sport earlier today.
Among those targeted by the always talkative Nicaraguan were UFC boss Dana White, StrikeForce welterweight champion Nick Diaz and former UFC lightweight champion BJ Penn.
The crux of the outburst was seemingly Mayorga’s attempt to challenge both Penn and Diaz to box him, although his tweets are so laced with insults and odd references that this isn’t always readily apparent.
The reason behind the challenge in Diaz’s case is that he was at one point in talks to box former super middleweight champion Jeff Lacy, although as with many proposed MMA/Boxing crossover bouts it eventually fell through. Where BJ Penn came into the picture isn’t quote certain.
“If MMA is so tough why is this bitch Nick Diaz fighting Lacy. My crippled grandmother would KO Lacy! BOXEO = NUMERO UNO!”
“I had a good run 5 miles. Now Im going to slap a chicken and make it give me fresh eggs. should i call it Nick Diaz or BJ? I smacked this pollo so that it could lay some eggs but it s*** itself. so i will name it Din Thomas the next slaughter i call diaz or bj.”

“Give me that chubby hippo BJ Penn and I’ll slaughter him. If BJ Penn wants to fight, I pay for his testicle implant and his funeral. this is boxeo maricon! numero uno VIVA NICARAGUA!”
“BJ – once I hit him in the stomach he will vomit all the pigs he consumes. Ask BJ the fat pig to box me or that puto Diaz who is a disgrace to Latinos.”

It isn’t clear what either Diaz or Penn make of Mayorga’s insults, although due to both being under contract with Zuffa, either ever boxing Mayorga is unlikely.
Similarly because of Mayorga’s contract with Don King, he wouldn’t be allowed to fight either in an MMA bout. Essentially making calling either Penn or Diaz out largely pointless.
Despite his odd anti-MMA rant however, it also wasn’t so long ago that Mayorga was attempting to take part in MMA himself.
Last year Mayorga signed to fight former UFC lightweight Din Thomas under the short lived Shine Fights banner.
He did his usual trash talking routine, punched Thomas at a press conference and even revealed that he was training in MMA techniques rather than hoping that his boxing alone would suffice.
Before the fight could take place however, Don King stepped in with a court order forbidding Mayorga from taking part, and the entire event shortly after fell apart.
Mayorga finally ended the bizarre outburst with:
“I have a stubborn fat pig in my farm and it gets mad when I try to take it’s meal- I have named it Dana White – good night”

In one of the brief windows not dedicated to attacking MMA, Mayorga also confirmed that he will be taking on Saul Alvarez in September, a bout rumored shortly after his recent loss to Miguel Cotto.
“Good morning El Matador fans. hope these MMAricons go away and roll and mount each other. we talk boxeo now. I am fighting Canelo in Sept”
Between now and then Alvarez has a potentially difficult bout with Ryan Rhodes to contend with, who represents a big step up in competition from anyone he has faced in the past.
Mayorga, if now far from his brief peak several years ago, will also present risks of his own to the sometimes stiff and stationary Alvarez, who has yet to take on many big punchers, especially at the full light middleweight limit.
Don Howell, Pitt: “Mayorga tried to fight MMA and Don King stopped him, just the same as Dana White would stop BJ or Nick Diaz. Why does Mayorga want to fight them anyway if he’s fighting Canelo soon?”
