I just returned from Discovery Green and not only was the World’s Largest Sprinkler making summer funner for Houston families, but the Target and local business giveaways and prize packages should be making even more summer fun for more days than just this weekend to many area families.
So what’s going on at Discovery Green this weekend? Target is sponsoring a “make summer funner event” with the World’s Largest Sprinkler. It’s a 20 foot long sprinkler that kids and grownups can play in. Today’s turnout was full of fun, and while Target is there this weekend they are giving away compressed towels to help kids dry off and ponchos for parents, sidewalk chalk for kids to draw and coupon books. I admit, I loved the compressed towels – they are so cute!

But today I had a very special reason (other than the Sprinkler) to spend some time taking a “walk in the park.” Target teamed up with your Houston Examiner to give away a number of really exciting prizes! Three prize packs full of goodies were awarded to lucky readers and attendees at the World’s Largest Sprinkler Event earlier today. Other prizes from local family friendly businesses included Houston’s BounceU $50 gift certificate valid as a discount on a Premier party package at BounceU; a Thirty One winner of one free Beach tote to make their summer funner and many mother’s are going to enjoy one full year of family fun and savings with 4 Great Houston Moxie Mom memberships given away.

I was also on hand with coloring pages, bubble blowing fun, and a number of games for the kids, the keep them entertained while waiting in line. Football, bean bag toss, and jump roping fun helped with family fun and entertainment.
Even if you missed out on today’s giveaways, the World’s Largest Sprinkler and Target will be at Discovery Green all weekend long.
Details: June 24-26th at the Downtown Discovery Green Conservancy located at 1500 McKinney Street, Houston, TX (713) 400-7336 from 11am-7pm.
There is a line so be prepared, and the hotter the day gets the longer the line gets. Also, at some point in time in line you will be asked to sign a waiver for your child to participate. Be sure to bring water to drink and enjoy the shade whenever possible.
Today there was a reported over 3,000 people in attendance, even with rain clouds on the horizon early this morning.
And for those worried about the “green-ness” of this event at Discovery Green, the water being used for the sprinkler is being collected and reused again, both for the event and to help keep our green, well — green.
While you are there this weekend be sure to take advantage of the brand new kayaking on Kinder Lake ($5.00), Wii gaming, Kids Craft Time, Salsa and more.
Enjoy a sneak peek at all the fun you could have tomorrow at Discovery Green.
