A highly pregnant Victoria Beckham certainly caused quite the furor earlier this week when she was photographed looking her usual high-style self, wearing five-inch Christian Loubitan while playing with her youngest son Cruz at a Los Angeles park.
She certainly isn’t the only celebrity parent snapped wearing the trendy footwear while pregnant or while carrying a newborn.
But many people who follow Beckhams movements went so far as to call her fashion choice “uncool.” Hundreds of people weighed in on the decision.
“Is she kidding? If fashion rules over safety and health of her unborn baby, then she is a moron!” wrote a reader of the London Daily Mail who identified herself as BeeBee.
“What a ‘sensible’ choice of footwear at her stage of pregnancy… if one of those heels had stuck in the grass hard and she had tumbled forward and hit the ground stomach down, what would have been the result?” wrote a reader identified as JT.
Some readers seemed to believe there was a time and a place for a pregnant woman to wear heels, but a romp in a park wasn’t it.
“The heels however are ridiculous. Why wear them at that stage in pregnancy just for everyday? Red carpet I could understand but its just a trip to the park,” wrote another reader identified as Alex.
“Stupid woman. think about the children for once, dress like a normal human being and have some fun. 5 inch heels should not be worn during the day by anyone, especially pregnant women,” wrote another identified as Lisa.
Some questioned Beckham’s motives for wearing what she did.
“It’s a set up. She’s all dressed up for a photo shoot in the park. Only a fool would wear those shoes to play ball with their children” said a woman identified as Julia Larsen.
“Tell me she wasn’t looking to get her picture in the paper by going to the park in those ridiculous heels. And once again, the paparazzi obliged,” a reader identified as Dani agreed.
There was the occasional apologist, offering an excuse on Beckham’s behalf.
“As for the heels – well it wouldn’t be my choice during pregnancy, but she probably cannot wear flats as her calf muscles are so used to wearing heels all the time – it would probably hurt,” wrote a woman identified as Anna Doncaster.
“Maybe they were doing something and stopped off to give the child some time to play. I have made unplanned stops many times. It is what a GOOD parent does,” a woman identified as Amanda added.
