Phantom Projects seeks young theater artists to participate in a developmental workshop at La Mirada Theatre. Applications are now available for 2011 Young Artist Project. Interested participants can submit an application online at www.PhantomProjects.com.
This is neither a talent show nor a competition, and it is not an event for beginners. This is a fully-staged production written and performed by the participants. Only 10 of the nearly 100 individuals who apply will be selected. Those selected will have exactly 14 days to completely create, rehearse and prepare their event to be performed as the final production in Phantom Projects Theatre Group’s 2010-2011 Season at La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts.
The company is seeking actors, dancers, writers, singers, filmmakers, choreographers, stage mangers, and any other type of performance artist. Each participant must be between the ages of 16-23 and all will be asked to contribute in more than one area over the two-week rehearsal process leading up to the public performance.
The deadline to apply is July 5, 2011. There is no cost to be involved.
“The Young Artist Project will make it possible for young people to have their visions come to life in a major Southland venue,” said Steve Cisneros, founder and producing artistic director of Phantom Projects Theatre Group. “They will contribute to a performance that is completely written, created and performed by some of Southern California’s brightest young artists.
“It should be as exciting for the audience at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts as it will be for these future stars to test their talents. Because it is a fluid rehearsal project, as much for development and encouragement of the talent as to prepare for a specific performance, the great benefit for the participants will be the emersion into a ‘real working environment’ like they will eventually experience at a professional theatre,” explained Cisneros. “We are also optimistic that we will forge relationships with new collaborators who will play a part in our regular season productions and tours to schools.”
Each year, Phantom Projects Theatre Group mounts a season of plays at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts and touring productions to middle and high schools in Los Angeles and Orange Counties.
