Canada – A major petstore chain which covers areas across Atlantic Canada has made a ground-breaking change…no more puppy sales.
Pets Unlimited has 18 stores – according to their website homepage, they provide “an inventory for all types of animals”.
The reason for the policy change was not immediately made known – though most individuals who cringe at the thought of pet stores selling puppies applaud the news.
According to the Nova Scotia SPCA, a large-scale breeding facility that supplied puppies to this chain will be closing down due to a loss of business.
Welcome news as that facility had been under investigation.
Perhaps the Pets Unlimited chain will follow the city of Los Angeles’ lead – featuring homeless puppies and dogs from area shelters instead.
Hopefully the Pets Unlimited policy change will equate to fewer impulse decisions by individuals hoping to add a dog to their family, and fewer puppies “produced” in a puppy mill environment.
Way to go Pets Unlimited!!
