John Lombardo, Managing Partner of Branches Catering, West Long Branch, is happy to annouce that the latest in Branches “Meet the Winery” series—where guests can meet the winery owner or winemaker over dinner—will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at 7:00p.m.
Barbara Longué of Côtes de Longué Selections represents the small family-owned winery in New Jersey says, “It’s an honor to represent this small Sonoma winery in Dry Creek Valley, because it has been cranking out fabulous wines for over 80 years.” Barbara went on to explain that John Pedroncelli, Sr. purchased the property In1927 and since Prohibition was in effect at the time, he sold grapes to home winemakers in order to keep the vineyards going.
After the Second World War, his sons, John and Jim came on board. John becoming the winemaker in 1948 and Jim becoming sales director in 1955. In 1963, the winery was officially purchased by John and Jim from their father. In the 1980s, the third generation came on board with John’s four daughters and his stepson serving as co-owners.
Richard Morehouse, a co-owner of Pedroncelli Winery, and John Pedroncelli’s stepson, will be present to lead the tasting and speak about the winery and wines. He explains that he manned the tasting room from 1984 until 1999 when he became Vice President of Sales. Pedroncelli’s strong presence in stores, wine shops and restaurants is his responsibility. Travel is an important aspect of his work, and he and Jim Pedroncelli have divided the task between them. Richard says of their shared travel,”He goes to the markets with great golf and I go to the ones with great fishing.” He went on to explain that Pedroncelli is still a family owned business and two elements remain unchanged: the exceptional place the Pedroncelli family farms vineyards, and the family’s dedication to making fine wines.
The dinner will begin with cheese selections paired with Pedroncelli Sauvignon Blanc Dry Creek Valley East Side Vineyard 2009 and Friends Red, Sonoma County, a proprietary blend of Merlot, Zinfandel, Syrah and Sangiovese. The cheeses have been selected by Susan Morris of Cheese on Main in Ocean Grove.
The first course will feature Skillet-seared Point Pleasant Bay Scallops drizzled with Tahitian vanilla bean sauce and Rice Paper Wrap with julienne Jicama, orange and Acacia honey. This course is paired with Chardonnay Dry Creek Valley 2009 and Rosé of Zinfandel Dry Creek Valley 2009.
The main course will be a Mixed Grill of authentic WAGYU Australian beef, wild boar, and Merguez lamb served with fresh vegetables and cottage-fried potatoes which will be paired with both Cabernet Sauvignon Dry Creek Valley Three Vineyards 2008 and Pedroncelli Syrah Ridge Ranch Alexander Valley 2007.
The dessert will feature poached figs in ginger syrup with lemon verbena ice cream and Pedroncelli Vintage Four Grapes Port 2005 and what Mr. Lombardo refers to a strong coffee.
Reservations can be made by calling 732-542-7790. The cost is $50 per person plus tax and 20% service charge. The wines will also be available for purchase that evening at a significant savings. Branches is located at 123 Monmouth Road, West Long Branch, NJ.
