Have you seen NOVAdog Magazine among the complimentary publications at your local veterinarian, pet supply store, dog daycare facility, dog wash, or animal shelter? Maybe you noticed NOVAdog at your local library or Whole Foods. If you have not seen it, it is because everyone else has already pocketed the current issue!
“I was inspired to create this publication when looking for information on local dog friendly places and could only find directory-type listings of pet service providers,” says NOVAdog Magazine Publisher, Janelle Welch, a 20-year publishing veteran and award-winning Art Director. “There was no lifestyle magazine serving the area’s needs completely dedicated to the local dog owner.”
Launched in Spring 2009, NOVAdog is personalized “with the help of my many local dog experts and people in the community.” Area dog trainers, veterinarians, nutritionists, animal law specialists, freelance writers, photographers and others in companion animal care and welfare contribute to the professional quality. Janelle says, “I love this interaction with the dog community and it feels like I have my finger on the pulse of what’s important to people.”
NOVAdog actively facilitates community service projects. “We are happy to support the animal welfare organizations that do so much for our community,” Janelle says. Successful fundraising endeavors include a dog food drive, Blog-a-thon for the Cure, and a recent dog collar drive.
Wooftastic Wednesday, NOVAdog’s unique creation, benefits one rescue organization every month. Every Wednesday a new dog-centric deal offers deep discounts on a local dog service or product. Janelle explains, “We designate one rescue for each month and they get a portion of the sales and credits for each e-mail they get to sign up for the deals.”
The NOVAdog website, a virtual dog-friendly neighborhood, offers the NOVAdog Blog, Marketplace, area fundraising and adoption event information, NOVAdog Facebook, and a charming section to share your dog photos for print publication in “The Scene” and a musical compilation of reader photo submissions on the NOVAdog YouTube Channel.
Enriching “the lives of local dogs and the bond they share with their owners,” NOVAdog Magazine is an essential source of cutting-edge canine information and community. Janelle credits the many people who help NOVAdog on a daily basis. “My Vice President of Advertising and Marketing, Angela Meyers, does a fantastic job. Her team of administrative staff keeps everything on track.” Janelle adds, “My delivery people and even the printer are all so important to keep NOVAdog Magazine running like a well-oiled machine!”
