The NFL’s list of the Top 100 Current Players continues tonight on the NFL Network and two more of the five total New Orleans Saints on the list will be presented. Airing tonight at 8:00 PM EST / 7:00 PM Central, the Top 100 Players of 2011 will honor OL Jahri Evans and LB Jonathan Vilma.
Falling into the fifties were OL Carl Nicks and WR Marques Colston who landed at numbers 55 and 53 respectively.
Tonight, Vilma is going to be presented by the on-the-field leader in quarterback Drew Brees. Evans will be discussed by the sideline leader for the Saints, Coach Sean Payton.
A full report will be up after the show airs with exact locations as to what numbers the two players landed at.
As a team, the Saints have a total of five players to be ranked in the Top 100. So tonight’s episode will showcase numbers three and four. Can you take a wild guess who the fifth Saint is?
Vilma was elected by teammates as one of five team captains last season. He started all 16 regular season games and NFC Wild Card Playoff at Seattle. He led the defense with tackles for the third straight year with 131 (69 solo), adding a career-high four sacks, one interception, four passes defensed, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery on his way to being named to the Pro Bowl for the second-straight season and third time of his career.
Since 2009, Evans has enjoyed two of the most decorated seasons for a Saints offensive lineman. He’s been voted to the last two Pro Bowls as a starter, was a 2009 and 2010 first-team All-Pro and is widely regarded as among the NFL’s top linemen
Last season, Evans started all 16 regular games for the fifth consecutive season and opened one playoff contest. He has started every game since being drafted, now having opened 80-consecutive contests – the most for a Saints offensive linemen to begin his career and the second-most by a Saint overall. He is part of one of only two offensive lines in the NFL to start all 16 regular season games.
Be sure to tune into the NFL Network tonight to honor our Saints and watch them get the respect they have deserved for so long.
