Despite being a 6 to 1 underdog and virtually written off by the media since the fight was announced earlier this year, Shane Mosley is still given a puncher’s chance by those who’ve been up close and personal with Shane in the ring. During the week, both Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Miguel Cotto publicly stated that Shane had what boxing insiders call a “puncher’s chance”. On Thursday, current WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto told Tempo.com that Mosley has a chance because he is a tough fighter with courage.
“Mosley is tough and Pacquiao is also tough and when you put these two fighters together, you are going to watch a war. The guy who presents more courage will provide difficult moments and he will win the fight.”

Miguel Cotto has fought both Shane Mosley and Manny Pacquiao in his career. In 2007, Cotto successfuly defended his WBA welterweight title by defeating Shane Mosley via unanimous decision (116-113, 115-113, 115-113). Cotto handed Mosley the 4th loss of his career. However, Miguel didn’t fare as well with Manny Pacquiao in late 2009 as he did with Mosley. Pacquiao dominated the fight and TKO’d Cotto in the 12th round.
Despite giving Mosley a chance in his interview with Tempo.com, Cotto believes that Pacquiao’s explosiveness is the key to the fight. Miguel believes that Manny’s power and speed are about the same as Shane Mosley’s. Most Boxing pundits would disagree with Cotto as they believe Mosley’s power and speed has deteriorated; thus giving the advantage to Pacquiao.

On Wednesday, Floyd Mayweather Jr. gave Mosley a chance, albeit a small one. In an interview with Fighthype.com, Floyd basically stated that the only way Shane has a realistic chance is to go back to being the old Shane and go all out without any caution. Mayweather, who defeated Mosley 1 year ago via Unanimous Decision, says that Mosley still has a good chin but as you get older everything else deteriorates.

However, Floyd Mayweather Sr. told Fighthype.com on Friday that he believes Shane Mosley has a good chance if he can return to the form he had in his January 2009 fight against Antonio Margarito when defeated Margarito via TKO in the 9th round of their championship fight.
