This coming Friday 20th, 2011, Hammer & Block Auctioneers (H&B), will host the first Live Art Auction inside a formal gallery space: LMNT Contemporary Arts in Wynwood.
LMNT (pronounced phonetically as elementi, or elements in Italian) is a 15,000 sq. ft space that will become a breeding ground for the contemporary arts in the neighborhood.
H&B is based in the Wynwood-Fashion Districts of Miami and it’s the first and only Live Auction House established in Miami. The company was recently formed into a legal Florida corporation by British Auctioneer, Neil Hunt.
For this first experience, H&B and LMNT will present a Live Art Auction as a way to bring together art aficionados, artists, young and experienced collectors, combining business acumen and promoting sales which in turn stimulate the local market.
“An outlet of artists in Miami are begging for a space to showcase their work,” says Neil Hunt, H&B CEO and President.
According to Hunt, creating an auction house that would trade art will also benefit the local galleries because there’s money changing hands generating an additional income in the community to be used to promote the arts.
“A huge amount of wonderful contemporary art is sitting in peoples’ collections in their houses; there’s an evident juxtaposition between private collectors with amazing art who have no way to spend it, sell it, or trade it,” adds Hunt.
The technological advances of the Internet have helped auctions valuations to be easier nowadays. To find the right price on a piece there has to be some research and investigation on it. Databases from other art auctions need to be compared to finalize a price that is right.
And how much is a piece worth? “It’s worth for what someone is prepared to pay for it, the markets sets itself,” says Hunt.
“Valuations are subjective but our guidance is based on our knowledge auction and auction valuation, having an extensive set of clients within the art & auction contacts, relationship with museums, private collectors, therefore the consigner will be willing to accept according to the right price,” adds Hunt.
Some of the participating artists for this auction are: Angel Vapor, Gaston Ugalde, John La Huis, Ciro Quintana, Luis Marin, Evelyn Valdirio, Alejandro Mendoza, Tatiana Blanco, elRaise, Cabrera Moreno, Marcelo Bonevardi, Carolina Sanlleh, Tomas Esson, Enrique Grau, Frank Hyder, Alonso Mateo, Alex Queral, Yovani Bauta, Salustiano, Ronald Westerhuis, among others.
Jesus Manuel Rojas Torres, Founder & President of Eclectic Network will emecee the event.
