If you think Stone Mountain Park in Atlanta has nothing new to offer, think again. A brand new 3-D lasershow and 4-D adventure film both make public debuts this Memorial Day weekend. Although Stone Mountain Park can keep a family entertained for an entire day, now there are even more reasons to visit Atlanta’s popular attraction. For Memorial Day 2011, “The Rock” is a perfect destination for good old-fashioned family fun.
New 3-D Lasershow Spectacular:
Since 1983, families in Atlanta have flocked to Stone Mountain Park’s Lasershow that combines popular music with images and lasers – all played out on the side of Stone Mountain. To attract new visitors, the Park invested more than $1,000,000 in a new technology that projects digital 3-D effects without the glasses. A volcano erupts and lava spews down the side of Stone Mountain. The Rock cracks open and birds fly out, right towards you. Stone Mountain Park calls the new effects “Mountainvision”, which plays out on an even larger screen of 400×300’. “It’s not very often you can be in line with the Disneys and places like that,” says creative director Stan Morrell. The length of the new lasershow in Mountainvision increases from 37 to 42 minutes and is free with the park’s $10 vehicle entrance fee. It debuts Saturday, May 28th and runs nightly throughout the summer months.
New Yogi Bear 4-D Adventure:
Yogi Bear’s 4-D Adventure stars Dan Aykroyd (Yogi) and Justin Timberlake (Boo Boo). The 12-minute experience engages guests through a 3-D film and spectacular 4th dimension special effects. This original film follows Yogi and Boo Boo during zany adventures to try to snatch picnic baskets from unsuspecting park guests. Individual tickets are not available for the 4-D Theater, you must have a One-Day All Attractions Pass, a Family Value Pass or a Mountain Membership to visit the Theater. The new 4-D adventure debuts at Stone Mountain Park on Saturday, May 28th.
