In Jacksonville one could not overlook the vast assembly of Harold Camping’s Family Radio Network May 21st doomsday propaganda. What’s more disturbing in the Spirit is not the spread of this undeniably false prophecy by Camping but the fact that many were misled. Mr. Camping has exposed a broad issue that affects the hallows of the Church. The truth is many professing “Christians” languish in the elementary teachings and doctrine of the Christian faith; there is a total disengagement between the Word of God and the believer. Harold Camping’s prophecy transgressed many of the scriptures that forecast the prophetic event known as the Rapture and the subsequent second coming of Christ. In his characterization of these events, the portrayal of the Rapture as a set of multiple incidents, then unifying them with Judgement day is a blatant misrepresentation of the scriptures as it is written in the Bible. Therefore, the Church must address this truth that Mr. Camping unintentionally exposed, not that the Pastors/Evangelist do not teach/preach, but the failure of the individual to know the Word, and allowing themselves to be bonded by his teachings. The eminence of Christianity is found in Christ, The Word, and the facts as revealed by numerous survey and statistics portray the sad reality that more than 75% of professing “Christians” disregard reading the Bible. This is evident in which 50% of the same reject the existence of the Devil and/or Hell. The fact that Family Radio glorified this contemptible distortion is negligible, but this error does not reside alone with Mr. Camping. The believer is accountable, the Bible is clear as a new creation in Christ we have the Spirit of God, the Spirit lives within us testifying to our spirit the truths in the Word of God, this is revelation knowledge (1 Corinthians 2). The individual failure to develop our Spirit is a direct result of not renewing our minds (Romans 12:1-3), if the believer does not spend time in the Word of God how will they know what the Scriptures proclaim; it is the responsibility of each believer too individual seek the Word, and validate that which is taught with the Word of God (1 John 4:1-3). The Bible has an immense amount of scripture in the Old and New Testaments that reveal this truth; and forewarns the accountability of the false teachers/prophets and those that follow. Though Harold Camping was ultimately proven wrong, no one can dismiss that which has been exposed. Neither can one reject the murky shadow and the repercussion that Church has suffered at the expense of Mr. Camping’s folly. If the Church as a whole can gain any knowledge from the fall out of this event, is the absolute need to return to the truths in the Bible; learn, love and live the Word , the Church can be silent no more.
