It’s hump day once again, and that means it’s time to try to forget that the rest of the workweek exists and instead focus our minds on the important stuff – comedy!
Every second Wednesday of the month, Rick Canavan and Andrew Mayer take over Castlebar, gather a flock of talented comedians together, and put on The Very Nice Comedy Show. This month, Episode 5: You’re a Killing Machine but Holy Crap are You Adorable! As always, they’ve assembled an assembly of legitimately talented comedians for you to watch and/or laugh and/or cry at, including DJ Reason, Dave Kennedy, Tom “The Funlap” Dunlap, and the one and only Mehran! Rick Canavan and Andrew Mayer host – the show starts at 8 pm and is free!
Also tonight, Mottley’s features The Fancy Gentlemen’s Club! Classy. Sophisticated. Hygenic. None of these words describe the Fancy Gentlemen’s Club. But this showcase is the perfect blend of Boston’s best standups combined with original sketch comedy and weird characters. No jacket required. They do recommend wearing pants (but not strongly). If you want a crazy sexy evening with hot exotic dancers, then this is definitely not the gentlemen’s club for you. But, if you like great comedy from some of Boston’s up and coming standups mixed with original sketch comedy, weird characters and videos, then this IS the gentlemen’s club for you. Lap dances optional (that is, if you like lap dances from sweaty, slightly overweight comedians). Lineup includes Jon Lincoln, Nate Johnson, Tim Vargulish, and special guests! Click here for tickets.
On Thursday, it’s The Dress Up Show at Mottley’s Comedy Club! Bethany Van Delft and Erin Judge host their monthly attempt to class the club up! Bethany and Erin will glam it up and bring a gang of their favorite local comics with them – and wear their finest and funkiest clothes. The audience is invited to dress up, too…every month it’s a who’s who of the hippest and hottest, plus contests, great comedy, and the kind of fun you only find at Mottley’s! This month the funny folks at DUS celebrate Mother’s Month with Adam Newman, Anthony Scibilli, Shawn Carter, Dan Crohn, Daniella Capolino, and Dana Cairns. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased here.

Taking place at Dick’s Beantown Comedy Vault this weekend will be Bill Santiago with Graig Murphy. Santiago is the first born of at least four children. He became a standup after narrowly escaping a career in journalism, facing the fact that as a comedian he was funny, but as a reporter he was a joke. With the premiere of his first television special, “Comedy Central Presents: Bill Santiago,” he won over fans nationwide with his dead-on observations about Spanglish – “twice the vocabulary, half the grammar!” and his beloved catchphrase “¡Porque Because!” Santiago’s second half-hour special for Showtime airs in 2011. Other credits include: Craig Ferguson, Conan O’brien, Comedy Central’s Premium Blend, Chelsea Lately, Good Morning America Now, ABC news, NBC TV Visiones, BBC World, NPR’s Latino USA. Looking to hit up an open mic this weekend? Check out Jono Zalay’s Sunday open mic at Dick’s Beantown Comedy Vault! Plagued by constant sunshine, he desperately applied to graduate programs on the east coast. Rejected from all but one school, he packed all his belongings and boarded a plane to Boston. His belongings boarded a plane to Philadelphia and were never seen again. Jono is currently earning his PhD in Neuroscience at Boston University, where he spends his days giving cocaine to rats, and his nights with similar company in comedy clubs all over New England and the rest of our great nation. Inspired by the legendary performers before him, Jono is proud to continue the great stand-up comedy tradition of studying Neuroscience. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased here.
