Founded in 1969 up in Bean Town, a few die hard BMW fans began to recruit members of their new car club by slipping flyers under the wiper blades of every BMW they saw on the street. From that humble, grassroots beginning has sprung a nationwide car club that boasts over 75,000 members. And, the beauty of BMW CCA is that there are over 60 local United States chapters so practically no matter where you live, you can sign up and meet and greet fellow Bimmerphiles. (Important note – a Bimmer is a BMW car, a Beemer is a BMW motorcycle.)
The club offers many benefits like a world class monthly magazine called “Rondel” – that’s the name given to the BMW badge on the hood of every car. Plus, most regions have a locally-focused newsletter that posts regional technical, social and driving events. And speaking of technical, the club has many experts (whose names are listed in their magazine) who can be e-mailed or called to get assistance with diagnosing a problem or recommending a trusted local service provider or dealer. They also have an Ombudsmen to assist with dealer issues.
For the BMW drivers with a more competitive bent, the club runs rallies, Auto-Crosses (timed, closed course speed events – one car at a time against the clock), Driver’s Schools (un-timed, race track high speed driving events – with highly qualified instructors) and BMW-only club racing (serious amateur racing with classes for most cars and strict rules about safety.) And, unlike NASCAR where “rubbing is racing”, they have strict rules to discourage drivers from racing (and crashing) to win at all costs.
If high-speed driving isn’t your thing, and your BMW is your “baby”, the club also holds car shows (called Concours d’elegance) where clean, beautiful and well prepared cars can go home with a trophy! These can be simple “show and shine” mostly social events all the way to the most serious and competitive no holds barred shows in the world.
One real benefit that anyone considering buying or leasing a BMW should take advantage of is the member’s rewards program. Anyone who is a member in good standing can apply for a “rebate” of from $250 to $1,500 – the amount depends on the model purchased.
They even have purchasing discount programs with many popular businesses – cell phones, clothing, rent-a-cars, hotels and insurance.
For only $48 per year (multi year discounts apply) you can get in on the BMW CCA fun. Check out their web site to experience all that they have to offer.
