MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR THIS SPRING/SUMMER’S TARGET WEDNESDAY AT THE FROST

The Patricia and Phillip Frost Art Museum, at Florida International University, is holding their opening reception this Wednesday, May 25, for three new exhibitions, for their Spring and Summer lineup, starting from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. And, as well as an addition of two more exhibitions for their next Target Wednesday After Hours to be held on June 8, 2011, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Visitors can expect to not only engage in contemporary art in these events, but there are usually an array of other artistic events as well, such as live music, talks, films, dance performances, and performance art. These and all events at the Frost Art Museum are always free and open to the public .

Target Wednesday After Hours on May 25, 2011, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.:

EAST/WEST: Visually Speaking

This exhibition features the work of 12 Chinese artists who combine and merge Eastern and Western visual languages in their artwork.

South Florida Cultural Consortium Exhibition

This exhibition is of the recent works of the recipients of the 2010 South Florida Cultural Consortium Visual and Media Artists Fellowship, which mainly assists artists through direct grants on the basis of improving the artists’ skills and to encourage further career development.

David and Hi-Jin Hodge: Who’s Counting and Temporal State Of Being

The exhibition consists of two multi-media works by these two artists that is said to explore the idea, or concept, of 21st century existence or state of being.

Target Wednesday After Hours on June 8, 2011 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.:

Rise of an Empire: Scenes of the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-95

The exhibit is said to feature 20 woodblock print triptychs depicting the first major conflict of Imperial Japan after Meiji Restoration of 1868, and the speedy westernization of Japan.

Tribute to Japanese Splendor: The Art of the Temari

Artist Sharon Thieman creates the centuries old tradition of the art of Temari, which are handcrafted embroidered balls, with a modern twist.
