The so-called “mainstream media,” known here as the “Democrat-media complex,” has declared a jihad – holy war – against truth in general and the Tea Party in particular.
In 2008, the media bent over backwards to get Barack Obama elected to office – they failed to tell America about his questionable background and associations, and failed to cover his many gaffes.
After his inauguration, the media treated him like the second coming of the Messiah. A Newsweek magazine cover even hailed him as “god of all things.”
With the rise of the Tea Party, the Democrat-media complex had a new target – average Americans rising up against an arrogant government bent on the economic destruction of America.
But with a Democrat in the Oval Office, dissent is no longer patriotic.
Instead of objectively airing the Tea Party’s concerns, operatives of the Democrat-media complex immediately labeled Tea Party activists racists, or worse.
Despite all efforts by the media, Tea Party candidates defeated “RINO’s” – “Republicans in Name Only” – and went on to give the Republicans a solid majority in the House of Representatives. The 2010 Election also saw Republicans make historic gains in state legislatures across the country.
After the January 2011 shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords in Tucson, the media set about manufacturing a blood libel against Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck and the Tea Party, hoping that Americans would rise up against the Tea Party.
They tried manufacturing another blood libel after the bombing and shootings in Norway when word came out that Anders Breivik claimed to be a “Christian,” despite his actual words, and the suspicious changes made to his Facebook page.
Now, with the looming debt crisis that threatens every single American, liberals in the Democrat-media complex are eagerly spouting the party line that the Tea Party is to blame for something that has been brewing for years.
Some, like Spokane radio talk show host Mike Fitzsimmons, have offered criticisms that could – and should – be discussed, but others have crossed the line of decency, and become full-blown propagandists using techniques that would make Josef Goebbels smile.
In an op-ed at Politico, American University law professor William Yeomans called Tea Party Republicans “full blown terrorists” as well as unpatriotic.
Calling Tea Party Republicans “villains,” Yeomans seemed to suggest that violence should be used against them:
The challenge for America is to stand firm in the face of terrorism, no matter the source.
Former Democratic Congressman Martin Frost compared the Tea Party to the Taliban in another op-ed at Politico.
Ten years ago, the Taliban in Afghanistan destroyed two gigantic figures of Buddha, carved into a hillside 18 centuries before. The world was aghast at this barbarian act taken in the name of religious purity. But was powerless to stop it.
We now have a group of U.S. politicians seeking political purity, who seem to have much in common with the Taliban. They are tea party members; and because of blind adherence to smaller government, they seem intent on risking destroying what American political leaders have constructed in more than two centuries of hard, often painful work. Like the Taliban, they see compromise as an unacceptable alternative.
Even the President has taken to calling Republicans “hostage takers” over the debt ceiling debate.
Rusty Weiss writes at Newsbusters that Democrats – including the President – and the media are coordinating this effort to demonize Republicans and the Tea Party:
Make no mistake, this ratcheting up of terrorism and hostage-taking discourse directly coincides with recent events in Norway. The instant that Oslo terrorist, Anders Behring Breivik, was labeled as a ‘right-wing Christian’, liberals finally had their moment to seize upon – not just a chance to label conservatives as extreme ideologues but a chance to label them as violent ideologues. This message has been a coordinated and vicious attack amongst the media, the Democrats, and most assuredly, the President.
On his Friday program, Rush Limbaugh played a montage of liberals using the current talking points:
RUSH: So this Politico piece. Maybe it’s an opinion piece. I said it was a news story, because it’s bylined. But it may well be a column. The headline is “The Tea Party’s Terrorist Tactics.” Before I get to this, let me show you what a coordinated thing this is. We have a media montage of Democrats (no media in here) talking about the Tea Party. Listen.
STENY HOYER: (rotunda noise) The Republicans are holding hostage the credit of the United States of America.
DEBBIE “BLABBERMOUTH” SCHULTZ: …our Republican colleagues to hold our economy hostage.
DINGY HARRY: The Republican Party is holding our economy hostage.
CHUCK-U SCHUMER: (rotunda noise) It didn’t say, “Hold America hostage.”
LOUISE SLAUGHTER: …hold the debt ceiling hostage.
SHELDON WHITEHOUSE: One party is holding the country hostage.
JOHN OLVER: The debt limit has never before been held hostage.
BARBARA LEE: Republicans are holding our economy hostage.
EARL BLUMENAUER: …willing to take hostage the debt ceiling.
JASON ALTMIRE: Stop holding America’s credit rating hostage.
ROSA DeLAURO: The Republican majority continues to hold the American economy hostage.
CHRIS VAN HOLLEN: Let’s not hold the entire American economy hostage.
JOHN LARSON: …ideological HOSTAGE situation…
LLOYD DOGGETT: The only belt they’re really tightening is right around the neck of those hostages.
JAMES CLYBURN: Holding the American economy hostage.
JESSE JACKSON, JR.: This President is being treated differently!
SPEAKER PRO-TEM: (gavel banging)
JACKSON: No other President has been stuck up, shook down, or held hostage!
Wondering where the “healing” President – the one that appeared briefly after the Tucson shootings – went, Weiss writes:
That man is a myth. He simply does not exist.
On Saturday’s Fox News Watch, Jon Scott cited a report done by the Media Research Council that shows most “news” organizations placed the blame for the debt ceiling directly on the Republicans:
The Media Research Center – which is, after all, a conservative media watchdog group – but they compiled a study about the coverage of the debate. Here’s what they found: By a three to one margin, network newscasts put the blame for the debt impasse on Republicans from the period from July 1 to July 22. Eighty-five stories done, 56 – which is 66 percent – mainly blame the Republicans for the debt impasse, and 17 of them mainly blame the Democrats.
NewsBusters managing editor Ken Shepherd discussed the media’s impact with political science professor Tim Groseclose, who just released a book about liberal media bias entitled “Left Turn: How Liberal Media Bias Distorts the American Mind.”
According to Newsbusters:
In the interview, recorded on July 27, Groseclose explained how his research proves the media’s liberal bias has a tendency to skew the electorate’s perception of the political world, making all of us more liberal than we would be were it not for the media’s liberal distortions.
Oppresive regimes throughout history have used propaganda to demonize their opponents and advance their agendas. When one compares the rhetoric used against the Tea Party, conservative Republicans and Christians to that used against Jews in 1930’s Germany, one sees many similarities.
The German propaganda resulted in the murder of millions.
We live in a dream world if we think it can’t happen here.
Consumers of network news must demand those organizations tell the whole truth, no matter how much it hurts their preferred political party.
They should also
hold the Democratic Party responsible for the organized smears against average Americans – and they will have a chance to do that in November 2012.
