As the Leverage retro recaps wind down, the next one up is “The Big Bang Job.” Nate and his crew continued to look for a way to take down Moreau in the episode that featured one of the coolest action scenes yet on the show.
The Italian told Nate that Moreau was coming and told him to put his plan into effect, leaving him a file. In a DOD lab, masked men pulled a woman out with some papers before it exploded. The masked people were Eliot, Parker, and Hardison, and they brought her back to the bar, where Nate told her she was officially dead. Moreau wanted her dead because General Atherton has been in Moreau’s pockets for years. They’d been working on a battery. At the lab, Atherton was not happy that Bixby and the other scientists weren’t making progress even though they needed Yasmin. Atherton called Moreau about having Yasmin killed, but the financier just called her a liability and told him to finish the project – or he too would become a liability.
Nate sent Yasmin to talk to Bonanno. Sophie reported that Moreau was running an auction at the end of the week for Ram’s Horn, and Eliot told them he knew what hotel Moreau was staying in. He kept tabs on him to stay clear. At the DOD, Nate approached Atherton as a legislative liaison that he already met. Nate said they had to get him out of there before Sophie arrived – just as she did. Eliot and Hardison headed for Moreau and when they ran into his security, Eliot told them his name and they were let through.
Sophie, posing as a congresswoman, wanted to see the facility, and Nate told Atherton to do what she wanted while he stayed with Parker, Sophie’s assistant. Sophie passed them Atherton’s phone on their way out. Parker found too much data and needed to narrow it down to get what they needed. Nate called Bixby as Atherton to get the file numbers. Eliot and Hardison came face-to-face with Chapman and Moreau, and they cuffed Hardison to a chair. Eliot said he was just the middleman in the exchange, and Hardison said he was there about the Ram’s Horn. Moreau agreed to talk to Eliot since he knew him and kicked Hardison into the pool. Eliot said he was dealing with a client overseas, and once they had a deal, they dropped Hardison the key to the cuffs. Once they left, the Italian was one of the women who entered.
Eliot told the others they were in, and Hardison revealed that Eliot worked for Moreau. Eliot said they were out of the league and the worst thing he ever did was for Moreau. Parker asked, but he warned her if she asked, he would tell her. Moreau was going to give Eliot the auction details the following day – after he killed Atherton. Hardison looked at the files and told them Ram’s Horn was a big bomb. Chapman took Eliot to kill Atherton and gave him a gun, but Eliot doesn’t like guns. Chapman followed and watched as Eliot snapped Atherton’s neck before the hitter got back in Chapman’s car. At the morgue, they let Atherton out of the body bag and had Sophie, posing as his wife, ID another body as him.
They needed to get Moreau in the same room as the bomb to get him for treason. Once Moreau got confirmation about Atherton’s death, he called Eliot with the details. At the DOD, they used Atherton’s card for access while Sophie directed him. He ran into Bixby in the elevator. Meanwhile, security got word of Atherton’s death but had him on their grid. However, it was Bixby wearing his ID – Parker switched them. She joined Hardison, but the bomb was gone. Eliot and Nate found the Italian in a warehouse at the docks. Sophie, Hardison, and Parker tracked the bomb to a train.
Parker and Hardison jumped onto it while Sophie drove alongside. They found the bomb bolted to the ground, and Hardison had Parker open the access panel. If he didn’t do everything right, the bomb would explode. In order to escape, Eliot pulled some tricky moves in a shootout, which ended with an explosion and him taking out Chapman. Hardison used Parker’s taser to overload the battery, and as the car exploded, they hung on to the back until Sophie picked them up.
As Moreau got ready for his flight to San Lorenzo, Nate and the Italian met him at the airport. Nate told him what happened to the bomb and told Yasmin to give the envelope to Bonanno. He had proof of Moreau’s crimes – framing him with the Italian’s crimes. He just changed around some accounts to set Moreau up as the fall guy. Eliot joined them, and Moreau shot the Italian in the shoulder before getting on the plane. As the others joined them while the Italian was loaded into an ambulance, Eliot told Nate the others didn’t need to know what he did. The job wasn’t done yet, and it was time to head to San Lorenzo.
