Lady Gaga appeared on The View on ABC on May 23, 2011. The performer sat for an interview with The View co-hosts Barbara Walters, Joy Behar, Sherri Shepherd and Elisabeth Hasselbeck. The interview coincided with the May 23 release of her new album, ‘Born This Way.’

Barbara Walters noted the transformation she had seen in Lady Gaga in the past two years and the sudden rise to fame. It seemed that Walters had a genuine affection for the young star, even to the point of saying that she felt that Gaga was a type of daughter to Walters. Lady Gaga’s real mother was in the audience and there is a definite family resemblance between the performer and her youthful looking mom.
Lady Gaga kept referring to her album, Born This Way, which was released worldwide today. She said that her message was one of self-worship and be who you are. “Be yourself, love who you are and be proud, because you were born this way.” She showed the back of her album cover, which has a picture of Gaga fused with a motor cycle, referring to the power of metal.
Forbes named Lady Gaga 2011’s Most Powerful Entertainer, bumping Oprah Winfrey from the top spot. Lady Gaga was named, in part, because of her savvy use of social medial. She has ten million followers on Twitter.
When asked how felt about being designated powerful, Lady Gaga said, “I think power is a funny word. You can do great things or not so great things.”
Lady Gaga said that in high school she was a misfit and she was bullied. She noted that you people do not realize how being bullied affects them throughout life. She said she had a big nose and buck teeth and that must have made her feel homely. At one point she was thrown into a trash can. Lady Gaga did not dress outlandishly in high school because she went to Catholic School and wore a school uniform.

Lady Gaga and Justin Timberlake were the guest hosts on Saturday Night Live on May 21, 2011. The View showed a clip of Timberlake and Gaga dressed as a beer bottle and a wine bottle, in a hilarious bit.
Lady Gaga was raised Catholic and she prays before every show. She prays to her Aunt Joanne, who had died of lupus at a very young age. She actually wears Joanne’s birth certificate on a necklace that she wears on stage.
The singer remains close with her family. Her sister, Natalie, designs her costumes. She said that her father objected to her appearing in her underwear at first, but he has come to accept her performance style.
Lady Gaga is also close friends with Sir Elton John and David Furnish. She is the Godmother to the baby that they adopted recently, a responsiblity that she said she takes very seriously.
