Kansas City’s car community has come up with several ways to help the victims of the devastating tornadoes that have damaged so much property and taken so many lives so close to home. We have compiled a list of the things we’ve heard about.
Check out the list below, because there’s a good chance you can still help out with donations, and attend a fun car event with a bunch of generous people all at the same time.
KC Trends in Overland Park has a weekly car cruise called “Fast Fridays.” This Friday, May 27, the $10 entry donations will be matched by KC Trends and sent to Joplin tornado victims. The location is 133rd and Grandview and the time is 7:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m. For more information, visit the Facebook page .
Drivers at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., will be passing their helmets through the grandstands this Friday night, May 27, to collect cash donations for tornado victims. Friday is C.A.R.B. Night at the Races. For more information, visit http://www.lakesidespeedway.net/.
Kansas City’s Cable Dahmer Chevrolet and the Independence School District are collecting donations for the Joplin relief effort. You can drop off trash bags, baby supplies, personal hygiene items, one gallon zipper-seal plastic bags, socks, underwear, and t-shirts until Friday at 7:00 p.m. at both Cable Dahmer locations. Rush Trucking will be shuttling critical supplies from Kansas City to Joplin. Although they are not accepting clothing donations, they can use bottled water, sleeping bags, extension cords, batteries, diabetic friendly snacks, denture glue, water, tarps, nails, hammers, staple guns, staples, diapers, feminine hygiene items, toilet paper, paper towels, pillows, and blankets. Northland Auto Body and Tow, located at 64th and Chattham off 29 Hwy, is collecting blankets, bottled water, toiletries, canned goods, radios, tarps, flash lights, batteries and clothing. The Automobile Dealers Association of Greater Kansas City donated $5000 to the tornado relief efforts in Joplin through the Red Cross and the Salvation Army.
Kansas Speedway is giving people the chance to drive their personal vehicles around the speedway when they donate $25.00 to tornado victims during their June 4-5 NASCAR racing weekend. This offer was detailed in an earlier icedjamb.com article here.
Blue Springs Harley Davidson will be holding a blood drive on June 11. People who give blood will receive a $20.00 Blue Springs Harley Davidson gift card and be entered in a drawing to visit the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. Details are located at http://www.bluespringsharleydavidson.com/.
