If you’re looking for an array of exciting things to do this summer with the family, consider the Wyandotte County Lake in Kansas City, Kansas located off of 91st and Leavenworth Road. There are miles of breathtaking scenery (1,500 acres), sycamore trees enveloping the countryside, winding turns that dip into the city’s most intoxicating breezes. The air is smooth and fresh, almost edible.
There are picnic shelters with grills for family cookouts, play areas for the kids and ducks to feed or watch from a distance. If you’re a die-hard fisherman or just a kid who loves to fish, there’s a spot for you too. And not to mention the boat dock where you can rent a boat and ride with your hair blowing high in the wind.
Although the 456 acre lake with marina was constructed in the 1930’s, it is still a remarkable place to explore. Make sure to locate the magnificient ‘spillway’ where the lake empties into a huge ravine with water cascading down a cemented wall.
Enjoy the beauty of nature and the design of the Works Progress Administration at the Wyandotte County Lake.
