Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina wowed viewers and judges on the “American Idol” vseason 10 finale (part one) Tuesday. It was hard to say which performer wowed viewers and judges more, as the three performances from each idol were incredible. It is a tight race, but if I were you, I’d put my money on Lauren, who was pegged the winner by the Idol judges after her final performance of the night stunned the audience and pulled on everyone’s heart strings.

It was revealed early in the episode that Lauren was having some vocal issues during the day’s rehearsal. She claimed she was fine and ready to go, even though she sounded a little horse. The show’s doctor said Lauren had blown one of her vocal chords due to pushing her voice to the maximum but assured viewers she was going to do great during the hour.
Lauren definitely didn’t disappoint, but you could tell she wasn’t feeling herself – at first. She brought every ounce of energy she could find, but her voice wasn’t as strong as during previous weeks. She chose to repeat her performance of “Flat on the Floor” by Carrie Underwood (chosen by Lauren), which was exciting at first but didn’t sound the same as it had weeks ago. Lauren’s second performance was “Maybe It was Memphis” by Pam Tillis (chosen by Lauren’s idol, Carrie Underwood). It was no doubt her strongest performance of the night. It was soft and sweet in the right moments and powerful in the right moments. Plus, you couldn’t help but love her adorable outfit!
Scotty performed “Gone” by Montgomery Gentry (chosen by Scotty) and “Check Yes or No” by George Strait (chosen by Scotty’s idol, George Strait). As usual, Scotty was incredibly charming during his performances and just plain adorable. He interacted with the live audience and a little with the TV audience. It’s hard not to love his deep, sultry sound. I particularly loved Scotty’s “Check Yes or No” performance. It was the perfect song for his voice and his personality.

Both Scotty and Lauren premiered their official “American Idol” songs as their final songs of the season. Scotty’s song was “I Love You This Big,” which was beautiful and captivating and brought tears to my eye. The judges thought his vocals were brilliant, and Jennifer loved how well he told the story of the song. Lauren’s song was “Like My Mother Does.” It was absolutely the perfect song for her and reminded me of a song Carrie Underwood, Lauren’s idol, would perform. Lauren may have started the night off rocky, but she nailed her final performance, leading the judges to choose her as their favorite of the night.
